1. Scope
This specification covers design, manufacture, tests of 180oC grade Concentric lay stranded High-
temperature and low-sag (HTLS) type LSCC (Low Sag Composite Core Conductor, hereinafter referred to
as stranded conductor) for use as overhead transmission line conductors.

2. General requirements
2-1 Applicable standard
ASTM B 609 Aluminum 1350 Round Wire, Annealed and Intermediate Tempers, for Electrical Purposes.
ASTM B 857 Shaped Wire Compact Concentric-Lay-Stranded Aluminum Conductor, Coated Steel
Supported (ACSS/TW)
ASTM B 987 Carbon Fiber Composite Core (CFC) for use in Overhead Electrical Conductor
2-2. In case of a conflict between this specification and the applicable standard, this specification have
priority. Furthermore, items other than specified in this specification shall be subjected to prior
approval.

3. Materials and construction

3-1. Aluminum wire
Aluminum wire shall meet each of the requirements specified below, before stranding.
(1) Material
Aluminum wire shall be conformed to ASTM B 609.
(2) Quality
Aluminum wire shall be uniform in quality and free from practically harmful defects such as flaw,
rust, crack, etc.
(3) The properties of Aluminum wire shall be specified in Table 1.

3-2. Composite core

Composite core shall meet each of the requirements specified below, before stranding
(1) Material
Composite core shall be based on carbon fiber composite and covered with aluminum as galvanic
protection barrier layer. Carbon fiber composite is continuous carbon fibers embedded in a high
temperature epoxy.
(2) Quality
Composite core shall be uniform in quality and smooth in surface and free from practically harmful
defects such as flaw, rust, crack, etc
(3) The properties of Composite core shall be specified on Table 2

3-4. Stranding
Stranded conductor shall be composed of composite core and 1350-O temper aluminum wires which
are stranded uniformly and tightly in the composition as shown in Table 4.
In all constructions, the successive layers have opposite direction lay and the direction of outer most
layers shall be right-handed (Z direction).
