Silverdale Summer Camp

2011
23rd- 26th June
This camp will be open to Year 7 and Year 8. We will be camping at Silver Helme scout campsite in
Silverdale, which is on the edge of Morecambe Bay. This site is a woodland site with clearings which
are great for camping. The site welcomes groups of children. There are toilets, hot showers and
washing-up facilities. This trip will cost £200.

Thursday 23rd June 9am Load up the buses.


10am Set off (please bring snacks and a packed lunch for the journey)
1pm Arrive at Silver Helme campsite, Silverdale. Pitch tents.
2pm Climbing on a crag at Silver Helme with qualified instructors from
Pink Adventures. Abseiling down.
5pm Organise camp and inside tents.
6pm Barbecue
7pm Exploring the beach and evening beach cricket. Campfire.
Friday 24th June 8am Cooked breakfast and then set off in buses to Ingleton.
9.45am Arrive at Ingleton falls and walk up the path to the top waterfall.
11am Meet instructors from Pink Adventures at Waterfall Cafe. Change
into wetsuits provided. Gorge walk down in the gorge back to the
buses. A very exciting activity involving sliding down channels,
clambering, jumping off rocks and climbing down waterfalls.
2pm Packed lunch.
2.30pm Caving in caves at Ingleton. These caves are full of natural rock
formations, crystals, stalactites and stalagmites. It is an underground
world that few people visit.
6.30pm Back above ground. Get changed out of caving gear. Fish and chips
from Ingleton’s excellent fish and chip shop.
7.30pm Return to Silverdale. Campfire.
Saturday 25th June 8am Cooked breakfast. Prepare packed lunches.
9.30am Orienteering in the woods at the campsite
11am Set off in buses to Hest Bank
12 noon. Meet Queen’s Guide to Morecambe Bay.
We will walk across Morecambe Bay with him. This is a 9 mile walk,
which can only be done at the correct stage of the tide with the
guide who knows how to avoid quicksands and deep water. It is a
spectacular trip across the UK’s largest tidal estuary bay with shining
sands and views across to the Lake District. A tractor and trailer
follow behind to pick up stragglers.
4pm The walkers arrive at Grange over Sands. Certificates are available to
show you have successfully crossed the bay. Transport back to the
camp.
6pm Final evening barbecue and camp games.
Sunday 26th June 8am Cooked breakfast. Take down tents. Pack tents. Load buses.
11am Set off back to school. Stop at Brimham Rocks for picnic lunch.
4pm Arrive at school. Put away camping gear.

I would like my child ____________________________to go on the Summer Camp 23rd- 26th June.
I would like them to take part in the above activities. I enclose the payment of £200 which is payable
in advance.
