    EXERCISE 1. Read the questions and answer. Try giving a complete answer.

    *Find the Cambridge dictionary and the linguee site as useful resources.

    1. Do you think hard work always pays off?


    Yes, I think so and there are a lot of examples about hard work and
    perseverance are the keys of successful.
    2. Have you ever done something that wasn’t your thing?
    Yeah, once I tried to participate in a play and it was the worst, acting is
    not my thing.
    3. Are you making the most of your classes?
    Yes, in fact I am on my sixth semester and now all my classes have to do
    with cars, so I am taking advantage and enjoying all.
    4. Will you be glad when your studies are all over?
    Of course, by then hard work will pay off.
    5. What good things are going on in your life?
    My friendships are getting better and better, it is a good thing for this part
    of my life.
    6. Do you believe that success isn’t everything?
    I don’t believe that, meaning of success depends on each person,
    probably you can do things that seem successful to other persons but no
    foy you.
    * This is going to be part of your speaking task 1, so you may need to take this information to complete it. You
    will find the assignment in classroom as Speaking 1.

    EXERCISE 3. Replace information in the following paragraphs with ing forms. Check answers with
    your teacher and classmates. (Then listen and check).

    1. One of the happiest moments in my life was having dinner in Italy with my husband. We
    were on a little island on a lake, eating outside at a restaurant. And there were these
    musicians playing music. Watching the sunset was so romantic. I can’t remember feeling
    happier.
    2. I think the happiest day in my life was celebrating my 18th birthday playing volleyball on
    the beach. There were some other guys there playing a game, too, and we played
    against them. They were really good, so the fact that we won felt really great. We’ve all
    stayed friends ever since, getting together, it always reminds me of that day.
    3. My earliest happy memory was winning the school spelling bee. I felt so proud standing
    there. Everyone in the audience stood up and clapped. Seen my parents’ faces was the
    best moment. I stood on the stage for ages and didn’t want it all to end.
