Interviewee: Clarisa V. Ovas

Occupation: Teacher

Interview Proper: (Put your questions and their answers below)

1. Why did you decide to become a teacher?

Aside from it offers full scholarship, I decided to become a teacher because I have the passion
in teaching and love being in the classroom. I also want to guide young learners and share my
skills to them. I could be an instrument in the field of education.

2. Describe a time that you felt challenged by a student.

Every school year I was challenged by non-reader or slow reader students. Since they were in
grade 3, it’s challenging to teach them to read. Some of them doesn’t know the sounds of
alphabet. During my vacant time I asked them to go to school early so I can teach the how to
read.

3. How do you cope with stress?

Going out with colleagues was one way to cope with the stress. Having a good sleep also help.

4. What is your teaching philosophy?

My philosophy of education is that all children are unique and must have a stimulating
educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially.
It is my desire to create this type of atmosphere where students can meet their full potential
My role as the teacher will be to assist each child in developing their own potential and
learning styles. I will provide a safe environment where students are invited to share their
ideas and take risks.

5. Describe your classroom management structure.

I have the authoritative classroom management. It is a balance of teacher control and student
involvement. Inside the classroom, students are encouraged to participant and collaborate but
also follow the rules. I value student input and feedback on how they feel about their learning
environment and ideas that can be incorporated to make it better.

6. Do you think students are different than they were before COVID-19? What changes have you
observed and how have you dealt with them in your classroom?
Since they have missed going to school for two years, there are lots of changes I have
observed. Pupils don’t know most of the classroom routines. They are used in modular
learning, wherein they always answer in their module. There is fewer interaction during
discussion.

7. How will you encourage parents to support their children’s education?

I will make constant contact with them and share the progress of their children. And ask their
involvement in school’s activities.

Conclusion (What did you learn from the interview?)

It has given me an overview of being a teacher. Their profession encompasses the passion and desire
to motivate and encourage children to develop a lifelong love of learning. It is challenging but also
provides many rewards. They are the facilitators and guides on a child's journey to developing
essential skills and knowledge to become valued members of the community.
