Wrestling

II. Facts about Wrestling (8 mins)


A. Did you know that wrestling is one of the oldest forms of combat, referenced
in the Iliad and depicted in 15,000-year-old cave drawings in France? Early
Egyptian and Babylonian reliefs show moves still used today.
B. Did you know that it first became popular in Greece? It is actually used in
Ancient Greece as training for soldiers in hand-to-hand combat. Kasama rin
sya sa makalumang Olympic Games.
C. Alam kong WWE pinakasikat, pero alam niyo na ba na marami palang
different forms of wrestling? Meron sa China, England, France, Arabia and
Scottland to name a few.
D. Did you know that the wrestling we all know now is only one type of
wrestling? It’s called Freestyle Wrestling. MMA is also considered as
wrestling.

III. The Hidden Charm behind Wrestling (8 mins)


A. Wrestling eventually pervaded America and WWE was born (u can use this
as a transition for this section). Why are people so attracted to wrestling? →
Kasi it’s a source of entertainment.
B. Alam nating fake ang wrestling, pero bakit nga ba siya ginawang fake kung
ginagamit naman talaga siya for combat in real life? And bakit kahit alam
natin na fake ang wrestling, popular pa rin siya? → Kasi nga entertaining
siya. Just like movies and series, it’s fictional yet so engrossing. So ginamit na
nila to as a form of entertainment.
a. WWE wrestling matches are made to look like real fights the same way
fight scenes in movies are staged in which the actors or actresses have
to pretend to beat people up without actually doing it. ANG
PINAGKAIBA lang is, sa WWE, di sila nagamit ng stuntman.

IV. VERDICT: Should we continue to support wrestling? (10 mins)


A. Study shows na wrestling has negative effects on children, do you still
encourage it? Why?
1. Possible Answer: Wrestling is a spectacle. It is a spectacle of excess.
B. Is wrestling a sport?
1. Yes and No.
1. Yes, kasi gingamit talaga in the past and kasali sa Olympics
2. No, kasi wrestling is merely a spectacle (what matters is not
what it thinks, but what it sees)
