Dear Service Engineer

This service news describes the most frequently encountered issues with the O 900 perimeter and offers possible solutions.

WARNING!
 ESD – Electrostatic Sensitive Device – For all repairs, the technician must be grounded.
 Do not modify this equipment without authorization of the manufacturer.
 Only trained technicians should carry out the following procedure.
 Any third-party device must be connected in compliance with the EN 60601-1 standard.
 The device must not be stacked or placed in close proximity to other electronic devices.
 Only original HS replacement parts may be used.

1. Connection issues between O 900 and the connecting PC


Possible errors Messages displayed:
Error {20299 / 21799}-0052 Remote control Exception when sending a message to OCTOPUS 900
Error {20299 / 21799}-0053 Remote control  Exception in sending status message
Error {20299 / 21799}-0070 Video image Exception in initializing socket

Should one of the above error messages appear check the following.
Wall plug / Network Is the 100Mbs switch installed in between the O 900 and the
connecting PC?
Connection needs to be as follows:
LAN cable form the O 900 is connected to the 100Mbs switch.
PC/Laptop is connected directly to the 100Mbs. If the installation is
networked; LAN cable of the network is connected to the 100Mbs

Wall plug / Network Alternatively a second network card can be added to the PC, if
possible.

Do not use Gb switch, speed needs to be 100Mbs.


Use only 100Mbs switch delivered with the O 900 and or
approved by Haag-Streit.

Standard port used 49153, is either blocked by firewall, internet


security, or another application running in the background.
Add firewall, internet security, exception for the port in use.

Change the port, for example, to 49170.


Instruction on how to change the port can be found in the O 900
installation guide.

2. Initialization of O 900 not possible due to light condition in the room


Possible error Messages displayed:
Error {20299 / 21799}-020805 Adjusting reference position  Light intensity calibration - please make room dimmer. Room is
too bright.
Error {20299 / 21799}-021B01 Check before start  Background illumination is too high - please make room dimmer
Error {20299 / 21799}-020301 Adjusting background  Light intensity calibration - please make room dimmer.

Above errors are usually shown when the room is not darkened enough.
The O 900 needs to be initialized and operated in a darkened room.
Make sure the room is completely darkened.

In some cases the initialization fails due to the light emitted from
the screen of the PC/Laptop.
Either position the PC/Laptop differently or decrease the brightness
of the screen.

3. Initialization of O 900 not possible due to soiling or hardware failure.


Error {20299 / 21799}-020804 Adjusting reference position  Photo sensor not found.
Error {20299 / 21799}-020102 Adjusting stimulus light intensity calibration DAC value overflow.
Warning {20299 / 21799}-02000D Initializing perimeter unit Stimulus LED Reserve low
If one of the above errors or warning appears check the following.
Is there a red triangle with warning sing displayed on the O 900
monitor panel when the O 900 is switched on?
If yes proceed to chapter 4.

 Can you see the stimulus light in the copula?
 If yes, where is it located when the error or warning is displayed?

Are the mirrors and achromate lens on the stimulus projector as


well as on the mirror unit clean?
Check mirrors for deteriation.

Check if the belt on the stimulus projector is still in good shape.


Should it be worn-out /defective, replace the stimulus deflection
assembly.

Check if blueish filter on the stimulus sensor has dust or fungus.

Stimulus sensor is located on top of the copula, see chapter 3.9


Brightness measurement p.c.b.-stimulus, in the service manual.

NOTE!
Should it turn out to be fungus, replace the sensor
as cleaning is only a temporary solution.

Remove the sensor from O 900 and unscrew the little screw that
holds the black cover.

Remove the filter and clean it as well as the surface of the sensor
itself.
Watch out the filter is not glued in.
Use white gas and lint free cloth for cleaning.

4. Initialization failure due to missing internal connection or defective parts.


Possible errors Messages displayed:
Error {20299 / 21799}-020804 Adjusting reference position Photo sensor not found.
Error {20299 / 21799}-030601 Start-up procedure failed: Error Code 40004  Possible problem is the reading from the
background sensor.
In case of Error {20299 / 21799}-020804 check/do the following.
Check cable connection between the main board and the stimulus
projector.
Remove and then reinsert the cable on the stimulus projector.
Check cable, plugs and sockets for damage.

Remove and then reinsert the cable on the main board.

NOTE!
Should the O 900 have serial number below 641,
replace the cable. Part no. 1804704s Cable MB-
DBST.

Remove and reinsert the cable that connects the stimulus sensor
to the distribution board on the stimulus projector on both ends.
Check cable, plugs and sockets for damage.

Should the error still persist replace the 1820462s Light Sensor Stimulus & LED Board Stimulus (set)
In case of Error {20299 / 21799}-030601 check/do the following.
Check cable connection between the main board and the mirror
unit.
Remove and then reinsert the cable on the mirror unit.
Check cable, plugs and sockets for damage.

Remove and then reinsert the cable on the main board.

NOTE!
Should the O 900 have serial number below 641,
replace the cable. Part no. 1804703s Cable MB-
DBMU.

sensor to the distribution board on the mirror unit on both ends.
Check cable, plugs and sockets for damage.

Should the error still persist replace the 1804401s Brightness measurement p.c.b. (background).
