    DESCRIPTION

    This proposal is for the construction of a 2-storey complex public market that will
    provide convenience to the people of Pontevedra, a 3rd class municipality in the province of
    Negros Occidental, having a population of 54 502 people according to the 2020 census
    conducted. Based on these figures, it represents 2.08% of the total population of the province of
    Negros Occidental. Pontevedra is known to have the distance of 11.17 kilometers from the
    nearest public market of the Municipality of Hinigaran. In line with this, the public market
    situated at Brgy. 2 of Poblacion, Pontevedra having a lot area of 2698.6 square meters was
    already dilapidated and considered hazardous when hit by any calamity. The number of stalls
    and commercial spaces need to be improved including the comfort room and parking areas.

    In accordance with the official website of the municipality, Pontevedra contributes a lot
    to the development and progress of the region, being one of the pillars of the sugar industry and
    part of the province’s Food Basket and performs the functional role as “The Food Growth Center
    of Negros Occidental”. In this manner it is only reasonable to prioritize projects that is centered
    in food industries like our proposed public market to be relocated that will answer the
    inconvenience to the locals caused by the existing public market that can only cater small
    businesses and produce lesser than what the municipality needs.

    This proposed project will be a complex building consisting of two components: a public
    market and a general merchant store. The building has an approximate total floor area of 9192
    square meters and will be divided into two levels. Where as, the ground level of 4 517 square
    meters will serve as the public market containing the dry, wet, and semi-wet sections of the
    market, pharmacy and a grocery store. Also, the general merchant store will be constructed on
    the second level of the building having a total floor area of 4675 square meters, and it will be
    housing the rentable spaces available for standardized business practices where each shop or stall
    is owner operated. The second level will also consist of a department store and a cooking station.
    Moreover, each level of the building will be provided 2 comfort rooms to answer the necessities
    of the people.

    The proposed location of the 2-storey complex public market is at the Reclamation area
    of Barangay 1, Municipality of Pontevedra. This location is accessible through public and private
    vehicles. Where as, the total lot area 6 716 square meters will leave 1 716 square meters of open
    space. This open space will be available for sidewalks and green area. Moreover, a commuter
    station and parking lots will also be provided for an efficient transportation for both the products
    and consumers. Along with it is a covered area for the stalls and restaurants to be built where
    people can immerse themselves on the showcase of delicacies by the Municipality of Pontevedra
    that will promote great tourism.

    This project will bring together diverse people, create active public spaces, link urban and
    rural economies, promote public health and provide economic opportunities for vendors, and
    catalyze the renewal of downtowns and neighborhoods.
