A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting The students will play “Riddle, Riddle”. In a minute, they will be asked to
the new lesson describe themselves on ¼ sheet of paper. Afterward, one description in each row will
be read by the teacher, and then the rest of the class will guess the one who is being
described.

meaning of a given expression
Examples: John is weak.
She makes me happy.
He takes me into his life.

Adjective Complement - is a phrase that modifies an adjective. It follows the


adjective in the sentence and offers more information about it. Adjective
complement examples consist of noun clauses or prepositional phrases.

Noun Clause:
 It was very obvious that this was the murder weapon.
 I am curious what my surprise will be.
 She is uncertain whether she made the right decision.
 I must decide which class to take next term.
 Denise is undecided when it comes to choosing music for the party.

Prepositional Phrase:
 Mary is very bright in applied physics.
 I am sorry to hear the sad news about your grandfather.
 Zach is eager for his birthday to arrive.
 It was pointless to argue further.
 The teacher was delighted with her students' progress.

Functions of Adjectives:
Subject Complements
A subject complement is one or more words which acts as an adjective
or noun and modifies or refers to the subject of the sentence. It follows linking
verbs, such as: is, are, was, become, seems, tastes, smells, and feels.

For example:
 Whales are beautiful.
 She is a star!
 The food smells delicious.

Object Complements
An object complement is one or more words which acts as an adjective
or noun and modifies or refers to the direct object of the sentence. It follows the
direct object.

For example:

 Christians consider Jerusalem holy.


 Mark made Enos happy.
 My boy friend gave me a flower.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing Directions: Tell whether the underlined words on the flashcards are noun clause or
new skills #1 prepositional phrase.
