Chapter 2
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Introduction:
This chapter focused on the methodology that was used in the study. It dealt with research
design, location of the study, respondents, research Instrument, validation of the Instrument, data
gathering procedure, statistical treatment of data, target population, sampling techniques and
sample size, research instruments, validity instruments, reliability of instruments, data collection
procedures and ethical considerations.
Research Design
This study determined the factors affecting the academic performances of Bachelor in
Elementary School students via flexible learning. The descriptive-correlational method
will use. There are about three research designs; qualitative research design the one that
generates words as data for analysis (Creswell,1998; Patton, 2009), quantitative research design
is the one that generates numbers as data for analysis (Patton and Cochran, 2002), and mixed-
method design comprises both qualitative and quantitative research designs.
Descriptive research is defined as a research method that describes the characteristics of
the population or phenomenon being studied. This methodology emphasizes the "what" of
the research subject rather than the "why" of the research subject. The descriptive
research method focuses on describing the nature of a demographic segment rather than
on the “why” of a particular phenomenon. In other words, it "describes" the subject of
the study without explaining "why" it occurs.

According to Gay (1992: 217), descriptive research entails gathering data in order to test
hypotheses or answer questions about the current state of the study's subject. A
descriptive study determines and reports the current state of affairs. Descriptive research is
scientific research that describes an event, phenomenon, or fact in a systematic manner in
relation to a specific area or population.
One of the components of research is getting enough information about the research problem—
the what, how, when and where answers, which is why descriptive research is an important type
of research. It is very useful when conducting research whose aim is to identify characteristics,
frequencies, trends, correlations, and categories.
According to Polit and Hungler (1999), state that describes what exists and may aid in
the discovery of new facts and meaning. Rather than testing a predicted relationship
between variables, this term is used to describe them.
This method is appropriate for this type of research design because it can explain,
describe, and detail on the factors affecting the academic performances of Bachelor in
Elementary School students via flexible learning.
Descriptive survey research uses surveys to gather data about varying subjects. This data aims
to know the extent to which different conditions can be obtained among these subjects. Survey
Research is a very popular data collection method in research designs. In survey research,
researchers create a survey or questionnaire and distribute it to respondents who give answers.
Generally, it is used to obtain quick information directly from the primary source and also
conducting rigorous quantitative and qualitative research. In some cases, survey research uses a
blend of both qualitative and quantitative strategies.

Survey research can be carried out both online and offline using the following methods. Offline
Surveys: This includes paper forms, mobile offline forms, and SMS-based forms. Online
Surveys: This is a cheap method of carrying out surveys and getting enough responses. It can be
carried out using Google form. In this study, researchers uses Google form to determined the
factors affecting the academic performances of Bachelor in Elementary Students in via flexible
learning.
The setting and focus of the study was conducted in Gordon Colllege and Subic Bay
College Inc. Olonga.longapo City, Zambales. These school was selected for the study of factors
affecting the academic performances among Bachelor in Elementary Education students via
flexible learning. The respondents for this study will be answer the following factors that
affects the academic performances of students by simply choosing some factors and ranked it
from 1-5 via google form.
With the use of Google Forms researchers can create and analyze surveys right into
mobile or web browser—no special software required which can provide instant results and can
summarize survey results at a glance with charts and graphs. Also researchers will be able to
pose a meaningful research question, select a sample group from the population using an
appropriate sampling technique, design a questionnaire without question bias, administer the
survey, analyze the data using graphs, data tables, and pivot charts, and draw conclusions from
the data and a very useful tool for meeting objectives.
virtue of City Ordinance No. 9, and is composed of four constituent colleges: College of
Computer Studies, College of Business and Accountancy, College of Education, and College of
Allied Health and Sciences.
While the Subic Bay Colleges (SBCI), Inc. is located at #2 & 3 18th Street, West Bajac-Bajac,
Olongapo City. Subic Bay Colleges (SBCI) is a non-profit and non-profit educational institution
offering pre-elementary, elementary, junior high school, senior high school, technical vocational
education and training (TVET) courses and Degree courses registered with DepEd, TESDA and
CHED.
Respondents
The respondents of this study will be gathered from 1-4th year students taking up the same course
Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) at the chosen school Subic Bay Colleges Inc (SBCI)
and Gordon College. The researcher came up with 50 students randomly on both school (SBCI)
The researcher will use questionnaires to conduct the data needed that will be given to the target
respondents by the use of Google forms. Furthermore, as the group researchers consist five (5)

To get the appropriate data needed the researchers will have questionnaires with two (2) parts.
Part 1 will ask for the profile of the respondents. The tool m for profile was made by the
researchers; it will determine the (school name, year level, age, sex, civil status and name)
Part II is the tool to determine the factors that affecting the academic performance of the
respondent in online class. The respondent will give their rank on the said factor from 2-5.
The instruments that will be used in this research will be Quantitative. To make an effective data
collection, we conduct questionnaire that will be given to respondents. Questionnaire classified
as quantitative method using the Google form, depending on the nature of questions.
Specifically, answers obtained through given question and answer in Google form from 1 to 5,
the 1 is the highest and the 5 is the lowest that is based on ranking method, the respondent will
put choose and click their desired answer in each questions that will be calculated in Quantitative
method.
The respondent
will fill up the required information, such as the name, age (based given age category, gender,
civil status, school name and year level.

The last part of the questionnaire is the question and the choices ranking , after filling up the
questionnaire the respondent will submit the answered questionnaire or clear the form to re-
answer the questions again.
The Factors affecting the academic performances of Bachelor in Elementary Education via
Flexible learning is a very serious topic where the students struggle in their student life whether
their in urban or rural areas even we’re using Flexible Learning, it is not easy to adjust for a
student without any online class gadgets. Using the topic, we’re going to conduct survey in every
students around the Olongapo City where we ask students to answer the survey we provide that
will used in our data gathering.
Each students answer the survey questions based on their experience and we found out the
positive and negative outcome using Flexible Learning.
Using Google Form, the student will fill the information and answer the given questions and
after submitting their questionnaire, it will automatically computed in response form which show
the data gathered in all respondents.

The frequency distribution will be used in order to show the number of respondents according
to the factors affecting the academic performances via Flexible learning. Such frequency
distribution will be made for interpreting the data and representing it, which will make it easier
to handle, analyze and interpret.
