Dear Fellow Members of the Tennessee Code Commission:

Pursuant to the Human Life Protection Act, 2019 Tenn. Pub. Acts, ch. 351, $ 3, this letter
serves to notifr the Tennessee Code Commissionthat the U.S. Supreme Court issued the judgment
today in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Heqlth Organization, I42 S. Ct. 2228 (2022). Dobbs
ovemrled, in whole or in part, Roe v. Wade,410 U.S. ll3 (L973), as modified by Planned
Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey, 505 U.S. 533 (1992), thereby restoring to the
states their authority to prohibit abortion.

Accordingly, the Human Life Protection Act, codified at Tenn. Code Ann. $ 39-15-213,
shall take effect on the thirtieth day following the Supreme Court issuing the judgmentin Dobbs'
That effective date is August 25,2022.
