1. INTRODUCTION
This chapter describes basic information of the instrument.
1.1 Features
BC ROBO © system is an automated preanalytical system for the selection, kitting and
barcoding of blood collection tubes prior to a patient’s phlebotomy procedure. The system
receives electronic orders from either the Laboratory or Hospital Information System to
determine the correct tubes and barcoding placement along with a worklist.
Techno Medica has invented and developed BC ROBO © system in 1991.
Easy to use
Just load the empty trays into the system. The system will start to prepare the patients’
kits once it receives the data from Laboratory or Hospital Information System. No other
operations are required.
8
Tube drawer
Most tubes with a size of 12-17mm diameters and 75-100mm in length can be used.
Tubes can be replenished easily by opening a drawer. Drawers have error protectors to
prevent loading the wrong kinds of tubes.
Pre-label detection
The system detects the leading edge of the tube to avoid placing the label where it would
block the window of the tubes. This function enables the viewing of the volume and
quality of the blood in the tubes.
Quality control
Built-in barcode reader verifies if the barcode labelled by the system is readable and
matches with Laboratory or Hospital Information System data.
