Reflection Essay About Mental Health
Now, I am more self-aware and have consolidated rational thinking about mental health.
For me, the most important learning comes from theoretical knowledge, more practice
dealing with individuals with mental illnesses, attending mental health workshops, and
practicing mental status examinations on individuals. Reflection allows me to improve
my ability to move forward, do better, learn from experience, and examine myself. I will
overcome my fear by maintaining a therapeutic relationship with the patient, treating the
patient nonjudgmentally, and showing empathy towards the patient. In addition, I will
cultivate positive attitudes toward mental illness and use therapeutic relationships and
compassion when dealing with psychiatric patients. In addition, I will improve my ability
to view mentally ill patients in a different way.

The article of “Becoming a Lifetime Reader” by Ruel Positive emphasizes the importance of
reading in which there are a lot of things to consider on becoming a lifetime reader. Reading is
indeed essential, because it expands our vocabulary, exercises our minds and gives us
knowledge that we can use in the field.
Reading is not just reading, we need to comprehend what we read. We must also bear in mind
the purpose of the text from the writer’s point of view. I do always believe that reading will make
a difference because through reading we learn. The learnings that we gain will have a great
impact on our own understanding and will.
As a reader, I do like to collect and read books that match my interest like novels, fiction and
fantasy stories etc. There are varieties of books in my collection because I was influenced by
my father who likes to collect and read different stories, documentaries, articles, law books and
many more. There are strategies that I used in understanding what I read, namely note taking,
highlighting the main sentences, using a dictionary for the words I am not familiar with and
skimming. The skimming style is most useful when I read large materials in a short amount of
time. I am using it in identifying the main ideas in each paragraph and ignore the details in
supportive sentences. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that I do not read and understand them.
Our learning is continuous and we can use it for multipurpose. So, becoming a lifetime reader is
very important not only for fun but also to discover new ideas and knowledge that are needed
for us to face in our daily life. Reading should be a daily routine for us to enhance our skills and
be knowledgeable enough of the things we are curious about. We need to explore things,
understand the different perspectives and create meaningful stories through reading. I believe
that if you have more vocabulary in your pocket it is easy to navigate and understand a certain
text from the paragraph and you can also help the others by sharing your ideas.
As mentioned in the article, “Reading books is not only about learning”. By reading it can
change your life. It will bring you to the future of what you want to be.
