UNIT-I
Oscillators: (7 hours)

modulation factor, analysis of modulated wave, power in AM waves, generation of AM waves,
Frequency modulation and its expression, Phase modulation, demodulation and detection.
UNIT-II
Introduction to digital signals- Analog versus digital, Binary system, Ideal digital signals, Digital
waveforms, voltage levels, switching time, period and frequency, duty cycle.
The basic gates: NOT gate, OR gate and AND gate, Universal logic gates: NOR gate, Bubbled AND
gate, De-Morgan’s first theorem, Universality of NOR gate, NAND gates, Bubbled OR gate, De-
Morgan’s second theorem, Universality of NAND gates.
UNIT-III
Boolean Laws and Theorems: Basic laws, OR operation, AND operation, Double inversion and De-
Morgan’s theorems, Duality Theorem, , Pair, Quads and Octets.
Overlapping groups, rolling the maps, eliminating redundant groups, Sum of Products method-
equation and logic circuit, Truth table to Karnaugh map, three variable maps, four variable maps,
converting a truth table to an equation, Logic circuit, Conversion between SOP and POS.

3. Set three questions from each unit I, II and III. Students will attempt 5 questions selecting at least
one question from sections B, C & D. Each question carries 10 marks. Questions of Section B will
be from uwnit I, Questions of Section C from unit II and Questions of section D from unit III
