Engineering College later upgraded to the status of National

Institute of Technology (Deemed University). On 17th October
2002 by Government of India under Ministry of Human
Resource Development (MHRD) with a mission to advance
knowledge and educate students in the area of science and
technology. NIT Jalandhar has 16 academic departments to
impact quality education so that the students imbibe the
quality and passion to work efficiently, wisely and creativity for
the betterment of humankind. The motto of NIT Jalandhar is
Learn-Lead-Serve. The Institute offers various UG, PG courses
and Research Programs in B.Tech, M.Tech and Ph.D,
respectively. Moreover the institute also promotes
interdisciplinary research too. NIT Jalandhar is situated in the
state of Punjab which is an important center of business and
financial activities and it is just 350 km from National Capital
Region. It is easily accessible by Air/Rail/Road. The institute has
a sprawling campus in 155 acres. It is situated in a serene
environment which is conducive of learning. This institution is

A legacy of more than 30 years: Established in 1987, right from its inception the institute
has played pivotal role in delivering to the technocratic demands of the world. The
alumni of the institute have proved its worth in global arena and many of them hold

 BIOTECHNOLOGY

The first batch of B Tech in Biotechnology has begun in the year 2007 and the
Department has a current intake of 57 students in B Tech. The department also started
Master of Technology M Tech program with a maximum intake of 34 students The full
time Doctor of Philosophy Ph D program in different research areas was started in the
year 2009 The department has signed an MOU on “Biotechnology and Process
Engineering on Biofuel Production”, for joint research collaboration with Department
of Agri food Biotechnology, University of Florence, Italy The Department has well
established state of the art laboratories with sophisticated equipment for
undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph D students

CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

DEPARTMENTS
The Department of Chemical Engineering was established in the year 1990 and the
Department has a current intake of 116 students in B Tech program and 30 students in
M Tech program The full time Ph D programmes in different research areas were
started in the year 2006 The Department is DST FIST sponsored and has well
established state of the art laboratories with sophisticated equipment for
undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph D students

CIVIL ENGINEERING

The Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 1990 and the
Department has a current intake of 116 students in B Tech program, 35 students in M
Tech in Structural and Construction Engineering and 17 students in M Tech in
Geotechnical Geo environmental Engineering The full time PhD programmes in
different research areas were started in the year
2006 The Department has well established state of the art laboratories with
sophisticated equipment for undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph D students

 COMPUTER SCIENCE & ENGINEERING

The Department of Computer Science Engineering was established in 1990 and has a
current intake of 121 students in B Tech program. The Department offers two full time M
Tech programmes in Computer Science Engineering and Information Security with
intake of 36 and 12 students, respectively Besides, Ph D programme was also started in
the year 2007 The Department has well established state of the art laboratories with
sophisticated equipment for undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph D students

ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION

The Department of Electronics Communication Engineering was started in 1989 The

department offers B Tech in Electronics Communication Engineering, two Master’s
programs one in VLSI Design M Tech VLSI and one in Electronics Communication M Tech
ECE and Full Time and Part Time doctorate program

HUMANITIES & MANAGEMENT

The Department of Humanities and Management was established in the year 1989 The
Department offers both core and elective courses for all B Tech programmes The
department has established state of the art language lab to enhance communication
skills of students.

ENGINEERING

The Department of Industrial Production Engineering IPE was established in the year
1989 and is offering B Tech in Industrial Production Engineering with current intake of
117 students The Department has been offering M Tech Programme in Manufacturing
Technology since 2004 with current intake of 42 students Another M Tech Programme
on Industrial Engineering with intake of 28 students has been started from current
academic year i e 2019 The Department started full time Ph D programmes in different
research areas in the year 2006

INSTRUMENTATION & CONTROL

ENGINEERING

DEPARTMENTS
The Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering ICE commenced its B
Tech degree programme in 1990 Connecting the disciplines of electrical, electronics,
mechanics, computer science and control engineering is the core competence of
modern engineering Thus, the ICE curriculum provides a broad insight into state of the
art methods for this interdisciplinary combination reinforced by research The
Department has started M Tech Full Time in Control and Instrumentation Engineering
w e f July 2006 and M Tech Part Time w e f July 2010 The current intake for B Tech is 93
students and M Tech is 28 students The Department has also started Ph D Programme
in 2005 in the allied areas of Instrumentation and Control Engineering

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was founded in 1990 and since 2002 the
department is offering B Tech in Mechanical Engineering The current in take of
students is 117 The Department is accredited with NBA and is a FIST sponsored
Department From 2019 onwards, the M Tech in Mechanical Engineering has been
started in the stream of Design Engineering with an intake of 44 students and Thermal
Engineering with an intake of 28 students The PhD programme was started in 2011

 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

The mission of the Information Technology Department is to impart knowledge, both

theoretical and practical, to enable the student to solve challenging real world computing
and related problems upon graduation.The Department of Information Technology has a
current intake of 117 brightest minds in B Tech program.The course structure spans
sundry topics like Data Structures and Algorithms, Networks,Operating Systems,Machine
learning and Cryptography. The department has laboratories catering to all the subjects
of this stream.Students are guided by highly qualified and energetic faculty members.
DEPARTMENTS

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

The Department of Electrical Engineering has a rich legacy of innovation and creativity in
teaching and research and was established in 1990, offering B.tech in Electrical
Engineering with current intake of 60 students. The department has been flourishing in
all respect and has well equipped facilities that helps in all round development of
students.

TEXTILE TECHNOLOGY

The Department of Textile Technology was established in the year 1989 to offer four years
B Tech Textile Technology program with an intake of 30 students The intake of B Tech
students was increased subsequently and presently it stands at 115 students The
department also started the M Tech Textile Engineering and Management program in
the year 2004 and PhD programs in all areas of textile technology in the year 2006

The Department of Mathematics was established in 1990 with the very inception of the

students We offer postgraduate program as well as a doctoral research program for
highly motivated students looking to pursue an academic or industrial career in
Mathematics

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

The Department of Physics started in 1989 for teaching students from all B Tech
programmes The department has come a long way since today the department in
addition runs M Sc and Ph D programs The department strives to emerge as a premier
centre of Physics education and research across the country.

 STUDENT LIFE
NIT Jalandhar is an institute that offers exposure and opportunities in different dimensions. 30 fully
functional cultural and technical clubs, ensure that each student gets to learn and pursue all he/
she ever wanted to, but couldn’t because of the immense pressure mounted by the JEE. It would be
extremely difficult for one to define the campus life of a “regular” student of NITJ. There are
hundreds of lives to choose from and each student picks the kind of life best suited for him, keeping
in mind the desired balance point between his academics and co-curricular involvement.

techNITi is an annual techno-managerial fest of NITJ, an

opportunity for students from all over the country from a diversity
of fields to unite and celebrate our various identities, now
conjoined, as one. Through the year we sweat, we create, we
analyse, we write, we work, and we play, but in our respective

traditions.

Utkansh is the Annual Cultural Festival of the National Institute of

Technology Jalandhar.
Held in the mid of March every year, it attracts a whopping 10,000
students from more than 50 colleges all over the country participating in
70+ events. In the past, Utkansh has been a stage for the many
entertaining performances in North India.

 CLUBS AT NITJ
E-CELL is a cell aimed at creating entrepreneurship
culture in the college. It conducts various seminars
related to entrepreneurship guided by entrepreneur
alumni and it also organizes internship fairs here. It
heads other cells like Media cell, Analytics cell,
Research cell etc.

Developer Student Club is an initiative where

Google collaborates with passionate university
students and provides them with the opportunity
to grow their knowledge on developer
technologies .

CLUB CULTURE
CODING CLUB is the official society of coding
which provides a platform to learn and
explore. We also conduct event through
collaborations.

Prayaas is an activity lead and managed by students of

NIT Jalandhar, working on enlightening poor students
on the basics and importance of education.

In pursue of National initiative for Design

Innovation by ministry of Human Resources and
development, the Innovation Club of NIT
Jalandhar is an initiative taken in order to
promote and give nourishment to new ideas as
well as recycling the existing ones in order to
make our daily life easy.

 NETRA is the official photography club of the
college, a family of few shutterbugs, working in
small team to cover all the official and
ceremonial events in the institute. They have a
special role to play in documenting the
memories of fellow NITJians.

TEAM DAKSH, a team which fabricates

the robotic skills in a student.

T&P Centre, NIT Jalandhar conducts all recruitment related activities of the institute. With
a dedicated team of Professors, Student Coordinators and staff members, T&P centre
handles the placement/internship procedures. This includes initiating communication
with the companies, scheduling and executing the placement procedures along with
coordination of recruiters and the students. Over the years, Training & Placement Centre
has proved its efficiency in meeting the expectations of both the recruiters and the
students.
