CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Jackfruit said to be the biggest fruit in the world, the jackfruit (Artocarpus Heterophyllus)
is an indigenous fruit of South India which is popular in the Southeast Asian Region. We don’t
know jackfruit has a potential not only to be eaten to take away hunger, but also we can get
another potential on it. Jackfruit sap has a sticky appearance that can be potential to make
alternative glue. Many studies have been performed and tested on the outcome of the efficiency
of jackfruit sap as alternative glue. Many researchers did not succeed the outcomes, but many
researchers do their best to succeed and just like me who is continuing to study about it and
expect that it will succeed. As a researcher, I experimented that jackfruit sap has a potential to be
alternative glue. The impacts of processed glue and the jackfruit sap were compared about their
efficiency. Processed glue is commonly used nowadays and it contains a lot of substances to
form glue, unlike the jackfruit sap that is organic material that is found on jackfruit.
Research objectives
This study aims to determine the efficiency of jackfruit sap as alternative glue.
To save money on buying some glue
To develop a new homemade alternative glue

Significance of the Study
This study is conducted to improve the efficiency of jackfruit sap as alternative glue. This
study can benefit to those who have a glue production to make them productive. Sellers,
designers and students are can also benefit on this study. Instead of buying glue, maybe we must
use the alternative glue came from the jackfruit sap. From this, we can save money from buying
glue. Jackfruit sap is organic material that can be found on jackfruit. Glue is essential thing in
some people because it has a big part for their work just like designers.
Literature review
 Adhesives
a. Jackfruit sap
-jackfruit sap can be alternative ingredient in producing glue. Jackfruit
(cartocarpus heteraphyllus ) contains latex, that is used for trapping birdlime and
insects, could be an essential ingredient in making adhesives. The latex found in
jackfruit contains bacteriolytic value comparible to that of papaya latex.
b. Wet adhesives ( milk as an alternative glue )
- glue is a common adhesives used in schools, houses, offices and even in

construction. Cambridge dictionary defines glue as a “ Sticky substance that is use for
joining things together permanently, produced from animal bones and skins or by a
chemical process. People before used the collagen because of its adhesives to hold things
together. Tecson ( 2019 ) conducted an experimental study on the feasibility of milk as an
alternative glue. She put the skimmed milk, vinegar and water in a heated pan and let it
boil. As a result, the glue made out of milk was effective.
c. Okra ( Abelmoschus esculentus ) as alternative glue

- The university of Sto. Thomas in 2013, a study was made about having okra
( Abelmoschus esculentus ) as an alternative glue. The study made used okra pods
because it contains mucilage which gives its slimy characteristic and is a good potential
as an alternative glue. The researcher conducted its experimentation by extracting the
mucilage of the okra.
d. Star apple ( Chrysophyllum cainito ) sap as an alternative glue
- In 2016 (N.A.) as study about star apple sap as an alternative glue was
conducted. The researcher constructed the sap from the fruit and put it in a closed
container. After a day, the researcher tested the product in different kinds of paper and it
was proven that the star apple ( Chrysophyllum cainito ) sap Is a feasible alternative
component for glue
e. The active adhesives
- the active adhesives also called chemically hardening on capable adhesives

require a chemical reaction for bonding two surfaces. These adhesives are classified into
one and two components reactive adhesives ( e.g. heat or light curved ) and have been
used in applications where substrates requires substantial permanency and high strength
adhesives such as high-tech devices.
II. Glue
a. With chemical substance ( synthetic glues )

- Synthetic glues or adhesives are generally made from a combination of polyvinyl
acetate ( PVA ), water, ethanol, acetone and other substances
b. Homemade glue
- Homemade glue is an adhesive that can be prepared with normal household
products. Homemade glue experiments are often part of the educational
curriculum.
c. Commercial glue
- Glue is one of the oldest and most versatile adhesives. From the white glue used
in household crafts commercial-grade glues utilize in furniture and even
automobile manufacture.

Examining the effectiveness of alternative glue to different types of paper and to complete the
missing data that the researcher needed.

Jackfruit sap and water research about glue and about adhesive things.
Statistical Treatment of the Data
It involves the quality of the glue to determine if the is effective to the paper.
