Executive summary:

Aliya is the VP of sales for Becker Birnbaum International (BBI). She is looking to hiring a

marketing director to support her divisions portfolio of 34 products. After working HR Aliyah

find out two possible candidates; Molly or Ed. Molly is a brand manager on Aliya team in the

cleaning division one the other hand Ed is a rising star from BBI’s beauty division. They both are

qualified for this position, but Aliya can choose just one. To make decision she must decide

whether the ALGORITHM or GUT.

Question: Should Aliya hire Molly or Ed?

Answer:

Based on my opinion Aliya should hire Molly because Aliya know best who is fit for the

position and should trust her gut.

Aliya had already work closely with Molly and know her strength and weakness. Aliya intended

to have Molly as her choice, she could specify talent, speed, and readiness to work the qualities

required for the position. Besides Aliya felt the best about Molly’s interview and her responses to

question rather than Ed.

The algorithm assists human resource managers in evaluating resumes and identify the applicants

that are most qualified for the position, but I believe that it is best applied as a complement to,

not a substitution for, human judgment. Algorithm is not yet reliable for BBI’s because this
system is new they have used it only three promotion decisions. BBI’s track record of three

decision isn’t enough, in my opinion, to demonstrate the system’s reliability. Aliya want to more

clarity on the system methodology. She needs to know not just which candidate the algorithm is

recommending but on basis. But Christine is not sharing much information about the system and

its methodology.

That’s why Aliyah should hire Molly.
