1. How did Juan Ferrando and Joaquin Fonseca describe the Chinese migrants, the Mestizos, the
lowland natives as well as the different northern peoples like the Tinguians, Igorots and
Ilongots?

Juan Ferrando and Joaquin Fonseca describe these people from their perspective and
observation. They based their description on these people’s distinct facial feature and physiques,
noticeable traits, and they also included some description of these people’s way of living, their
governance, foods, caste system. Its like a peek back through the past, because of their
description we can paint a better picture of what our roots looks like before we were all
completely colonized.

2. Discuss the different social classes and their particular functions in the early Philippine society
according to Juan de Plasencia.

According to Juan de Palencia there were three caste system. Caste refers to the
hereditary social classes. In the early Philippine Society, the three castes are Nobles, Commoner
and Slave. First up is Nobles, in this cluster the nobles are referred to as “maharlica” they are the
privileged ones they come second to the chiefs or datu. Second is the Commoner, also known as
“aliping namamahay” they are the workers of the nobles. They have their own land and money
because they are like the business partners of the nobles. Lastly are the slaves, or also known as
“aliping sa guiguilir” they are the lowest in the caste system, they are stay in servants, their
master is in control of their lives.

3.How will you describe the everyday life and language of the Tagalogs in the 16th Century
based on the writings of Fr. Pedro Chirino?

The first thing that came up to my mind is that we, Filipinos are very polite and
courteous. I also noticed our inferiority in this colonization period. This excerpt also showed how
musically inclined Filipinos are even in the 16th century. This also showed that we are a fast
learner and adaptive, we adopted to the language of our colonizers. I would describe their
everyday life and language in the 16th century as sad and dark period. I feel bad for them because
this excerpt is only showing the good sides and not acknowledging the dark side of this era. At
this time our colonizers are brainwashing and erasing our roots they are replacing it with theirs.
Based on my previous learning many colonial abuses were committed in this period.
