Planning
1. Identify the expected outcomes.

Implementation
1. Push wristwatch and long uniform sleeves above
wrists, and remove any rings.
2. If using Antiseptic Handrub:

a) Dispense appropriate amount of product


into palm of one hand.
b) Rub hands together, covering all surface.
c) Rubbed hands together until alcohol was
dry, allowed hands to dry completely
before applying gloves
3. If using a regular or antimicrobial hand soap:

a) Stand in front of the sink, keeping your


hands and uniform away from the sink
surface
b) Turn on water with the use of faucets or
pedal to regulate the flow and
temperature of water.
c) Avoid splashing water against your
uniform.
d) Regulate the flow of water to warm
temperature.
e) Wet your hands and wrist, keeping your
hands and forearms lower than your
elbow.
f) Apply appropriate amount of antiseptic
soap, and rub hands together.
g) Wash hands properly for at least 15 to 20
seconds, using a plenty of lather and
friction. Interlace fingers and rub palms
and backs of hands with circular motion at
least 5 times each and keep fingertips
down to facilitate removal of
microorganism.
h) Clean the under fingernails with the help
of the nails of other hand.
i) Rinse hands and wrist while keeping the
hands down and elbow up.
j) Dry hands and wrist with the use of paper
towel, or a single use cloth.

k) Discard the paper towel in proper


receptacle.
l) Use a clean, dry paper towel to turn off
hand faucet.
m) Apply appropriate lotion to hands.

Evaluation

1. Inspected the surface of the hands for obvious signs


of dirt and contaminants.
2. Inspect the hands for dermatitis or cracked skin

3. Identified unexpected outcomes.

CONSIDERATION:
 Anticipate the need for alternative handwashing products such as alcohol-based
hand rubs and/or detergent-containing towels.
 Instruct client/patient in proper technique and situation for handwashing.
