    The Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale

    The following 21 questions come from the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS
    21; Psychology Foundation of Australia, 2014).

    The DASS is designed to measure negative emotional states of depression, anxiety and
    stress and compare these to the general population. It is not designed to provide a
    clinical assessment or medical diagnosis. You will receive three scores for depression,
    anxiety and stress which can give some idea about the degree of these emotional states
    for you compared to the population average. High scores may indicate that it would be
    helpful to see a medical or mental health professional. 

    Please read each statement and select a response which indicates how much the
    statement applied to you over the past two weeks. There are no right or wrong
    answers. Do not spend too much time on any statement.

    The rating scale is as follows:

    NEVER - Did not apply to me at all 


    SOMETIMES - Applied to me to some degree, or some of the time 
    OFTEN - Applied to me to a considerable degree, or a good part of time 
    ALMOST ALWAYS - Applied to me very much, or most of the time

    Interpretation of scores
      Depression Anxiety Stress
    Normal 0-4 0-3 0-7
    Mild 5-6 4-5 8-9
    Moderate 7 - 10 6-7 10 - 12
    Severe 11 - 13 8-9 13 - 16
    Extremely severe 14+ 10+ 17+

    If any of your scores fall within the mild or moderate range, then it is suggested that you
    continue to monitor your symptoms of depression, anxiety or stress and identify
    strategies, as outlined in this course, in order to manage and reduce your negative
    feelings. 

    If any of your scores fall within the severe or extremely severe range, then it is
    suggested that you should seek help from a medical professional as soon as practicable.
