    Topic: Environment

    Explain some of the ways in which humans are damaging the environment. What can governments do
    to address these problems? What can individual people do?

    It can be seen that environmental problems are a hot potato 棘手或麻烦的事情 nowadays

    as almost everywhere on earth is somehow experiencing global warming. Humans are responsible for
    a variety of/a myriad of environmental problems, but we can also take steps to reduce/alleviate the
    damage/devastation that we are causing/delivering to the planet. The environmental problems/issues
    and the measures/methods that governments and individuals can take to address 解 决 these

    problems will be discussed.

    No one would deny that two of the biggest threats 威胁 to the environment are air pollution

    and waste. Gas emissions from factories and exhaust fumes 废气 from vehicles lead to global warming,

    which may have a devastating/destroying 毁灭性的 effect on the planet in the future. There is no
    doubt that as the human population increases, we are also producing ever greater quantities of waste,
    which contaminates the earth and pollutes rivers and oceans.

    Governments could certainly make more effort to reduce air pollution. They could
    introduce/implement laws to limit emissions from factories/industries or to force companies to use
    renewable/sustainable energy from solar, wind or water power. They could also impose 征收 ‘green
    taxes’ on drivers and airline companies. In this way, people would be encouraged to use public
    transport and to take fewer flights abroad, henceforth reducing emissions.

    At the same time, individuals should also take responsibility for the awful/distressing/dreadful
    impact they have on the environment. They can take public transport rather than driving, choosing
    products with less packaging, and recycle as much as possible. Most supermarkets now provide
    reusable bags for shoppers/customers as well as recycle bins for recycling glass, plastic and paper in
    their car parks. By reusing and recycling, we can help to reduce waste.

    In conclusion, both national governments and individuals must play their crucial/significant
    part in looking after/conserving the environment.
