BASE24 ATM SWITCH- Authorization Response Codes

Authorization response codes are two-position codes, indicating whether a transaction is approved or
declined and reasons thereof.

The table in the annexure provides description of important response codes supported by BASE24-ATM,
including the circumstances under which the BASE24-ATM Authorization process generates the code.

Branches are requested to take note of these codes, as they will help them while going through the Journal
Printer or the Receipt produced by the cardholder. This will also facilitate branches to guide the customers /
cardholders with exact reasons.

Sr. No Response Base-24 Description Explanation in Detail for the Response Codes and Action
Codes for the Response code Points
1 000 Approved with balances Approved Transactions with account balances being returned with
transaction responses. A transaction with this code is a successful
transaction.
2 001 Approved without Approved Transactions where account balances are not returned
balances with transaction responses i.e., transactions like Deposit, Mini
statement, PIN Change, POS etc. Also includes acquiry transactions,
i.e., other Bank card transactions made on our ATM. A transaction
with this code is a successful transaction.
3 050 Unauthorized usage Transaction declined because a restriction (viz., Inactive, Lost,
Stolen, Closed etc.) is added to card.

For e.g., Card status being inactive on account of PIN retries


exceeding the maximum number of 3 times.

Action: Depending upon the genuineness of the case, branch may


request ATM Switch in writing by way of letter / email duly
mentioning the Branch Manager’s name and designation, for re-
activation of card. CBS branches have to check card status in their
system before taking up with switch.
4 150 Unauthorized usage with Same as Response Code 050, but with a special condition to capture
special condition the card.
5 051 Expired card Transaction declined because the validity of card has expired.

Action: Write to Cancard Division Issue Section for replacement of


card.
6 151 Expired card with special Same as Response Code 051, but with a special condition to capture
condition the card.
7 052 Invalid card Transaction declined as the card data is not available or could not
be retrieved from Base24 database.
Action: Contact Cancard Division / ATM Switch
8 053 Invalid PIN a) Transaction declined as cardholder has entered an incorrect
PIN.

b) The two PINs entered on a PIN change transaction were not


the same.

Action: Advise cardholder to use correct PIN.


9 054 Database problem Transaction declined as PBF record is not available for the account
involved in the transaction. i.e., the account record for the
transaction in question is not available in the PBF file sent by the
branch.

If CBS host cannot be reached, Non-financial transaction rejections


will return this code.

Action: Non-CBS branches have to contact their BC officer. CBS


branches have to contact CBS help desk.
10 055 Ineligible transaction Transaction declined due to processing restrictions imposed on the
type of transaction performed.

For e.g., cardholder tries a deposit transaction when he is not


eligible to do.
11 056 Ineligible account Transaction declined as Base 24 record does not contain the
account type provided for the transaction.

For e.g., cardholder selects ‘Savings’ type when only Current A/c or
Overdraft A/c is linked.

12 057 Transaction not The transaction is declined because the terminal owner or card
supported issuer does not allow the transaction.

For e.g., If the ATMID of a CBS ATM is not defined in CBS host, the
latter will decline the transaction with this response code.

Action: CBS branches have to contact CBS team. Non-CBS


branches have to contact ATM Switch.
13 058 Insufficient funds with The transaction is declined because the cardholder has requested
no available balance funds from an account in which the available balance was less than
or equal to zero, under PBF processing. (Cards of CBS branches will
be declined with this response code only irrespective of available
balances being less than or greater than zero)

Action: Advise cardholders to have enough funds in their accounts.


14 059 Insufficient funds with The transaction is declined because the cardholder has requested
available balance funds from an account in which the available balance was greater
than zero, but less than the requested amount, under PBF
processing.

Action: Advise cardholders to have enough funds in their accounts


to honour the transaction request.
15 060 User limit exceeded The transaction is declined because the cardholder has already
reached the maximum number of withdrawals allowed during the
current usage accumulation period.
16 061 Withdrawal limit would The transaction is declined because it would cause the cardholder’s
be exceeded withdrawal limit to be exceeded for the current usage accumulation
period.

For e.g., If a debit cardholder had already drawn a certain amount


during the day and the amount that he tries in the current attempt
would exceed the per day withdrawal limit of Rs.15000/-, this
response code will be displayed.

Action: Advise cardholders to work within the maximum per day


withdrawal limit.
17 062 PIN Tries Exceeded The transaction is declined because the cardholder has already
reached the maximum number of PIN retries allowed for the current
usage accumulation period.
18 063 Withdrawal Limit Already The transaction is declined because the cardholder has already
Reached reached the withdrawal limit for the current usage accumulation
period.

For e.g., If a debit cardholder has already drawn the maximum


withdrawal limit of Rs.15000/- and makes another attempt to draw,
this response code will be displayed.

Action: Non-CBS branches to advise customers accordingly.

If CBS host cannot be reached, Financial transaction rejections will


return this code.

Action: CBS branches have to contact CBS help desk.


19 064 Invalid Credit Card Cash The transaction is declined because it does not meet the criteria for
Advance Amount credit set by the card issuer for card transactions. (Currently, this is
not available to our credit card holders)

Action: Advise other Bank credit card holders to contact their Bank.

20 066 No statement This message comes when account does not have any mini
information statement information in offline status.

Action: Ensure generation of Mini Statement. Contact BC Officer in


case of need.
21 068 External Decline 1) Online Decline By Branch Host:

· For hotlisted card at branch level / blocked account

· For insufficient funds

· For wrong linking of card at account level etc.

2) M24 / Listener: When M24 is up and Listener is down

Action: Check and correct card linkage / bring up listener.


22 070 System error The PIN block in the transaction is not readable or the TMK is not
loaded in the ATM.

Action: Contact ATM Switch.


23 071 Contact Card Issuer When a cardholder attempts to make first online usage of the card
(HO Cir. 329/2006 dated 01/12/06), transaction may be declined
with this response code for the following reasons:

1. Offline transactions are pending for upload from switch.


2. Line connectivity is not established between switch and
branch host.

Action: Check connectivity / contact ATM Switch.


24 072 Destination not available The transaction is denied because the destination to which the
Authorization process routed the transaction is unavailable or a
Message 24 time-out has occurred.

Action: Log off and Log on Message 24 application.


25 073 Routing look up problem Base24 is unable to route an acquiring transaction to the respective
interchange host or the card prefix (first 6 digits) is not present in
the database.

Action: Contact ATM Switch.


26 074 Message edit error
The transaction is denied because invalid data is encountered in the
request message.

Action: Contact ATM Switch.
