• More than 30 years ago, Hirotada and Ruiko Henmi, a
husband and wife team and founders of Henmi Educational
General Laboratory (HEGL) dedicated their lives to invent
Japan’s most ground-breaking right brain training technique
for children. Throughout this amazing 30 years, the Heguru
Programme is proven to be highly effective with students
achieving remarkable success, attracting extensive media
coverage and widespread attention from the whole
nation. The Heguru Method impressed the Japanese
Education Ministry so much that this technique was
incorporated into the Japan Aviation Academy HEGL Junior
High School in 2006. Ruiko Henmi was also named one of the
“super teachers” of Japan among many other awards.

• What is the HEGL method?

Heguru Method is rigorously developed by Hirotada and

Ruiko Henmi for more than 30 years. This effective early
childhood education technique focuses on capitalizing on a
child’s ability to absorb information as opposed to the
conventional approaches of teaching.

It is known that a child’s first few years of learning are the

most crucial. When their ability to receive and acquire
knowledge is brought to the highest possible level, children
are able to adapt seamlessly to any aspect of learning in many
different environments.

The key to this success is known as the “Right Brain"

Development or training. At Heguru Japan, these methods
are refined on a daily basis and are aimed at increasing
fundamental skills as early as a child’s prenatal or infancy
period. Training the “Right Brain” allows a child to develop
cognitive abilities at remarkable pace.
 Other than conditioning the children to attune to creativity
and knowledge, Heguru also aspires to nurture positiveness
and goodness of hearts within them. Ultimately, Heguru
aspires to foster a future generation that is able to lead and

After working for Mitsubishi Bank and as chief of the interior department at a major housing company,

Ruiko participated in a programme at Todai Academy in 1989.

• Heguru @ PURI is made up of a team of dedicated and caring teachers whose

passion is helping children reach their maximum potential. Our teachers are

equipped and certified to have the necessary skills and knowledge to teach the

Heguru curriculum, having all personally gone through a rigorous training course in

Japan, run by the founders of Henmi Educational General Laboratory (HEGL), Mr.

and Mrs. Henmi themselves.

All teaching staffs are required to be kept up-to-date through regular upgrade

courses in Japan. Above this, our Principal and lead teachers are personally guided

and mentored by Mr. and Mrs. Henmi. As the first Japanese licensed Heguru School

in Indonesia, we set out to be partners with parents in unlocking their child’s

abilities and this three way commitment and love between Heguru, the parent and

Wonderful Abilities of Your Child's Right Brain

Start Early, Start Right
You have probably heard or read about left or right-brained dominance, where each
side of the brain controls different types of thinking. A “left-brained” person is
considered to be more logical, objective and analytical while a person who is “right-
brained” is said to be more expressive, creative and intuitive.

Left Brain
The left brain is the “reasoning” brain. It controls the conscious mind, logic and
reasoning abilities. It processes information systematically (one by one) but slowly
and in small quantity.

Right Brain
On the other hand, the right brain is the “visualisation” brain. It controls the
subconscious mind, imaging abilities and creativity. It has the powerful abilities to
process massive amount of information quickly, and has great memory retention
ability.

What is Right Brain Education?

Our current educational system leaves very little room for right brain development.
This can be very challenging for most children.
They start school and immediately face lessons that are meant for enhancing left
brain functions such as speech and computation.
Right brain training is aimed towards very young children in order to strengthen the
important functions that are related to the right side of their brain which will greatly

Why Start Right Brain Training as Young as 6 Months

Old?
It has been found out that the right hemisphere of the brain develops fastest from
birth up to six years of age. It is during this crucial period that right brain
stimulation and development is at its most effective.
Therefore, it is important to expose your child to quality stimuli early on. This will
allow them to build a large library of information in their subconscious mind that they
can keep and use as they grow up.
If the right brain of your child is left untrained during this time frame, the rapid rate of
learning decreases and your child’s innate right brain abilities becomes dormant
beyond the age of six. Even more so when your child starts formal schooling and his
left brain development gains momentum.

At around age 3, 70% of the brain is formed. By age 7, about 90% of the brain has
been developed. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to maximise this limited
window from birth to 6 years old.

What is Heguru Education?

Heguru Education was developed by the Heguru method learning centre in Japan
over 30 years ago using extensive scientific research. It consists of programmes that
are meant for early childhood education and right brain training for your baby,
toddler or preschooler.
In particular, the effective Heguru method and curriculum focuses on the
development of the right side of the brain. We have received positive reviews on
Heguru method from Singapore parents.
We capitalise and maximize the learning spurt of children during their formative first
six years.

Heguru's Children RIght Brain Education has 5 Purposes:

1. Enlarging “Vessel” for the Brain

We know how to train kids' right brain actively and enabling it to be as open to new
information as possible. A shortcut to achieving this is to develop the balance of IZ
and BZ (9 Basic Powers). It is very important that the parents show complete faith in
their children’s abilities.
2. Drawing out Multiple Talents from the Children’s Personalities
We provide children with opportunities to discover their hidden talents. When they
show interest in something, encouragement is the key. We allow them to do things
in their entirety, from start to finish, so that they may feel a sense of accomplishment.

3. Giving Children Self-Confidence and Exploiting Potential

Children get very excited when they realize they can do something, no matter how
basic it is. We give them plenty of opportunity to discover what they can do by
themselves. Parents must also trust and support their children throughout.

4. Cultivating the Power of the Mind (EQ)

Family plays a major part in cultivating the minds of children. Children must feel that
they are loved unconditionally. Parents should take on the responsibility of being
their child’s first teacher. Heguru will then act as an additional outlet of support to

calmly. When they don’t understand something, we prompt them to ask. Eventually,

Frequently Asked
Questions
The pace in Heguru classes is too fast and
difficult to follow.
At our early childhood education center - Heguru, the pace of the
class is carefully varied. We emphasize speed in a Heguru
classroom to fully utilize the right brain. To develop it, rhythm
training such as flash cards et cetera requires high speed. Years of
research shows we can stimulate our brains through such training
and ultimately encourage quick thinking and an enhanced mental
capacity.

Will IQ scores go up?

Though we do not any more, we have conducted IQ tests at
HEGURU a few times in the past and the scores recorded then are
publicly announced. Through our students’ recent IQ test results
taken at institutions elsewhere, the scores shows a steady
increase. Many of our students exhibit scores over 160, even 200.

Earlier the better? (Can infants start before his

first birthday?)
First of all, we advise mothers to start before birth, during the
fetus stage. After birth, the first year of the infant is regarded as
the “brain’s golden stage of development” and is the best period
to create the foundation of his brain. Therefore we recommend
starting around the time the baby can support his own head up.

When would be the best time to start?

In regards to right brain development, the earlier the better. In
other words, the older the child gets, the harder it is to expect
better results. Generally, it is said that 6 years old is the time limit.
However at HEGURU, we set the limit to the age of 9.
If the child really shows interest in the activities that we do, there
are cases where children over 10 have successfully developed
their right brain. The key is for the child to take pure interest.

Can we really expect improvement just by

attending class once a week?
Please be assured that the majority of our students come once a
week and show magnificent progress.
Coming once a week is our standard program.
There are students who come twice a week and evidently, those
who attend twice a week progress faster in comparison.
Although this is so, we recommend the best possible choice for
you to fit your needs in accordance. The point is to come and
enjoy participating in our classes.

How long should the child attend classes at

HEGURU?
One criterion we have is when graduating primary school.

In the first stage of development, we structure the “Basic Zone”.

“The Implementation Zone” of the brain is structured by the age of
6. This refers to the toddler level and preschool level at HEGURU.
After this period, we boost the level of the child’s right brain to
equip “hado-reading” skills from the lower grades to middle grades
of primary school. After this, they become members of
“ichimankai.
Moreover until the child reaches the upper grades of primary
school, their left brain (logic brain) begins to develop. We
simultaneously raise the level of the right brain to balance it off
with the growth of the left. Gradually in the higher grades,
practices intensify for both sides of the brain so it can be used
under self-control.

If things allow, please do continue onto junior high school and high
school years. The right brain can be developed further. We take
pride in seeing many of our students being the top students of
prestigious schools in the country with minimum studying time.

Can the abilities cultivated at HEGURU still be

used when you become older?
Yes. That is one of our major objectives, “to cultivate ability that
can be utilized even when you become older”.
More often than not, we hear “Child prodigies do not grow into
adult genius.”

The reason why we have numerous programs other than our

regular standard classes at HEGURU is to root down the abilities
once developed. The abilities will continue to flourish during the
process of their growth; in junior high school, high school, and
then through college. The more opportunities to practice the
skills, the more it will evolve, making it stable and stay through
adulthood.

My child is fidgety and it makes me concerned.

All children are restless by nature. A child easily loses interest in
one thing, and moves to another. However, a child can absorb
information even if he/she is not paying attention to the object.
Although a child does not seem to be concentrating, he/she is
able to read content accurately. It is the responsibility of parents
to choose a good learning environment or early childhood
education center for children for them to enjoy and pay more
attention during lessons.

We are a full-time working couple and don’t have

time to look after our child’s learning at home. Will
it be all right?
It is important for your child to learn the Heguru method if you
find it hard to educate him or her at home. Since the contents of
our classes are very intense, your child can produce excellent
results even if he/she only attends the class once a week. Even
better, the results produced can be remarkable if parents can
take the time to guide their children at home even if the time
spent is very brief.

The achievement level Heguru students are quite

high. I am afraid my child cannot keep up with
them.
All the parents feel the same way. The only reason your child may
be behind in a class is because the others have had a head start.
Therefore, you should praise your child for each accomplishment
in the activities conducted. In 2 months or so, the child will get
used to it and enjoy learning at our early childhood education
center, Heguru.
I honestly don’t expect too much from my child. I
don’t think a high-standard education, such as
the one at Heguru is necessary.
We understand early childhood education may seem strange for
the parents, especially we start training infant from 6 months old.
Some parents would rather raise their children in a more relaxed
manner. On the other hand, various studies have concluded that
such education bridges the huge gap in cognitive skills when a
child becomes older. We encourage parents to open their
horizons to increasing their child’s potential as they grow and
enjoy nurturing the learning foundation for them just like sowing
seeds in a field.

I cannot help scolding my child.

Reprimanding your children is not always the effective solution
because the question centers on how you can help improve your
child. There has to some extent of “disciplining” but avoid from
using harsh words because by doing that, you may discourage the
child from progressing and can cause him or her to eventually
lose self-confidence.
