C. MOTIVATION

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

our previous lesson. Now, let us proceed to our new
lesson.

Before we proceed on our lesson, let us play a game

called
‘CHOOSE YOUR TI ( 띠)”

Instruction:

1.The teacher will show different kinds of belts in

taekwondo and call for a student who will choose
his/her belt.

different pictures, do you have any idea what will be
our lesson for today?

Yes, it can be Karate-do, but it’s another kind of martial Ma’am taekwondo.
art just like karate do. Thank you (name of the students)
for your answer. How about the others?

Exactly! If you can notice the ti or the belt you choose,

those are the different belts of taekwondo.
D. LESSON PROPER

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

I know that everyone is familiar with the sport (The student/ volunteer will share his/her answer)
taekwondo. It is a popular sport here in our country as
well as in other countries.

So, for you what is taekwondo? Anyone who wants to

share their ideas about taekwondo?

Taekwondo is characterized by kicking and

punching movements. It is a martial art that
combines a variety of kicks, strikes, and blocks into
a dynamic system of sport and self-defense. In Ma’am what is Pomsae?
taekwondo it involves punching and kicking, stances
and blocking that you can use in a self-defense or in
performing a form in taekwondo or what we are calling
pomsae.

Pomase are forms in taekwondo just like kata in

Karatedo. But let just focus on our lesson for today
because we will also tackle that on our next lesson.

It is composed of three parts as shown in the

English spelling, though it is one word in Korean.
"Tae" means "foot," "leg," or "to step on";
"Kwon" means "fist," or "fight"; and "Do" means
the "way" or "discipline." So, basically taekwondo “The way of kicking and punching” ma’am.
is a Korean word meaning “The way of kicking and
punching.” It is a method of unarmed combat intended
for self-defense that engages the mind and the body.”

“So, when you are asked what is TAEKWONDO?

Your answer is?

“Very good! Now you know the answer when someone

asks you. I see that (name of the students) is really
listening. This will serve as your recitation. So just to
remind you guys I am noting all the students who
participated in my discussion and that will serve as
their recitation and will receive a gift from me.”

It is a martial art independently developed over 20

centuries ago in Korea. Taekwondo was developed
during the 1940s and 1950s by various Korean
martial artists as a blend of the indigenous Korean
fighting styles of taekkyeon, gwonbeop, and subak
It was developed as a combination of different Korean
forms, indigenous Korean fighting styles and also the
Japanese discipline Karate.
Over the many years it has become a popular
international sport, specifically one of the Olympic
sports. The WORLD TAEKWONDO
FEDERATION is the governing body of taekwondo
in the Olympics. Which formulates and implements
the rules and regulations in taekwondo around the
world.

Do you have any questions about our brief overview of No, ma’am.
taekwondo?

Typical answer of every student, so if you don’t have

any question, I have a question for you.

What country did taekwondo originate from? (name of Korea, ma’am

the student)

Wow, you really are listening huh, Now let’s proceed

to the Basic skills in taekwondo.

“First is the Basic Punch in taekwondo wherein the

hand is balled into a fist with the thumb on the
outside.”

“There are a number of different punches in

taekwondo, but they all share the same basic
technique.”

We have 3 basic punches in taekwondo. The middle

punch, low punch and high punch.

“Punches are designated as being low, middle, or high

depending on where they are aimed.”

Low Punch is also called Low Section Punch; this is

aimed at the opponent's navel.

“Let me show you a short video clip demonstrating the

Low Punch”
*The teacher will show a video clip demonstrating the
skill and the teacher will call for a student to
demonstrate the skill in class

low punch, but before you demonstrate the skill, kindly
tell us first the skill you are going to show.

low punch, but before you demonstrate the skill, kindly

Middle Punch is also called Middle Section Punch,

this is aimed at the opponent's solar plexus.

High Punch also called High Section Punch; this is

of the upper lip).

Every form of martial arts has certain techniques that

set it apart from the other branches of the martial arts.
For example Karate focuses more on fighting with the
hand while Taekwondo involves more kicking. It puts
a heavier emphasis on kicks and just uses hands as
backup.

So, the basic Kicks in taekwondo are Roundhouse

Kick, Axe Kick, Side Kick, Back Kick, Front Kick

A roundhouse kick (also known as swinging kick or

an angled power kick) is a kick in which the
attacker swings their leg around in a semicircular
motion, striking with the front of the leg or foot.

straight leg.

Side Kick (also Side Piercing Kick) is performed by

turning the body sideways with the hip turned
slightly over; chamber the kicking leg diagonally
across the body, then extend the leg in a linear
fashion toward the target

Back Kick (also called Spinning Back Kick, Horse

Kick, Donkey Kick, Mule Kick) is performed by
kicking backward, behind you, like a horse. The
striking surface is the bottom of the foot, ideally the
heel.

Front Kick (also called a Front Snap Kick, Flash

Kick) is performed by first raising the knee of the
kicking leg so that the knee is aimed at the target.
The ankle is held straight in-line with the rest of the
leg.
