Simple Past Tense – to talk about actions that started and finished in the past. It is formed by adding ed.
Past Continuous Tense – We use the past continuous tense to talk about actions or events that started in
the past. It is formed by using was/were with the –ing.
Present Tense Verbs – We use present tense verbs to describe habits and repeated actions, to talk about
facts and to write negative sentences. We use do not or does not.
Present Tense – We use do not or does not. We use not after is/are. We use is, am or are. To write
question in the present tense, we start the sentence with do.
Past Tense – We use did not. We use not after was/were. We start the sentence with did.
Simple Subject and Predicate– example: The man with the brown bag is running towards the store

Compound Subject and Predicate – there are two Subject and two Predicate. We use and/or.
example: Samantha and her friends did not disturb anyone. (compound subject)
Jim ate the chocolates and danced to the tunes. (compound predicate)

1. Underline the verbs in each sentence. Write SP for the simple past and PC for the past
continuous above each verb.
A. An unknown lady was standing in front of Alvin when he opened the door.
B. The lady looks scary, but she spoke very softly.
C. Alvin was talking to her when he heard a loud thud downstairs.
D. He rushed to the market to see that a robbery had taken place.
2. Fill in the blanks with the correct form (simple past or past continuous) of the verbs given in
parentheses.

Next, I hear my father shout, “Alvin! Go and do your homework!”
Every day, the first thing I do is to wait by the window, hoping some
criminals would show up.
After that, I hear my sister yell, “Alvin! Play football with me!”
Finally, I pick up my binoculars and scan the sixty-seven shops on Luna
