Simple Past Tense – to talk about actions that started and finished in the past. It is formed by adding ed.

example: My brother played soccer yesterday, and his team won.


The boys ate breakfast quickly yesterday because they were late for school.

Past Continuous Tense – We use the past continuous tense to talk about actions or events that started in
the past. It is formed by using was/were with the –ing.

example: My brother’s soccer team was losing the game.


The boys were playing computer games at 10 o’clock.

Present Tense Verbs – We use present tense verbs to describe habits and repeated actions, to talk about
facts and to write negative sentences. We use do not or does not.

example: She goes to art class on Saturday.


He plays the violin very well.
He does not play the violin very well.

USING PRESENT AND PAST TENSE

Present Tense – We use do not or does not. We use not after is/are. We use is, am or are. To write
question in the present tense, we start the sentence with do.

example: She plays soccer in her free time.


She is not very friendly.
She does not play soccer in her free time
When is your flight?
Do students attend school every day?

Past Tense – We use did not. We use not after was/were. We start the sentence with did.

example: I won a medalfor winning the race


I did not win a prize.
My parents were not at home.
What happened to you?
Did you go to school yesterday?

Subject – that tell us who or what the sentence is about.


Predicate – that tell us what the subject is or what it does.

example: All the men are standing in a queue.

Compound Subject and Predicate – there are two Subject and two Predicate. We use and/or.

example: Samantha and her friends did not disturb anyone. (compound subject)
Jim ate the chocolates and danced to the tunes. (compound predicate)
