CASE 1: Everybody’s Salon: Who Can I Turn To?

I. Executive Summary

The aim of this case study is to give and

analyze potential solutions to Ms. Tamayo's dilemma upon making her business big, in which
she struggled on how to satisfy her customers and how to manage her business, finding what
exact assistance she needed and wanted in order to have a successful business.

Ms. Tamayo was currently running a massage and spa business, as her business grew, she
was never satisfied with that as she is desiring even more bigger. She thought that if she would
have to grow, she must increase her output in terms of market share. It was very timely because
the customers were already complaining about the very limited hairdressers and massagers. As
if to add to her burden, a friend from a nearby town asked if she could offer a franchise.

Therefore, in order to have satisfactory customer service, Ms. Tamayo must hire experienced
workers who are also good at communicating with the customers. Ms. Tamayo also needs to
create a solid marketing plan on how to promote and expand her business.

II. Background

Tamayo decided to put up a salon business. She worked with a local beauty parlor. In charge of
income, her efforts made a significant contribution to the improvement of the firm’s gross
revenue. After two years, she thought that her career was at a dead-end, so moved
to a new business. She put up a new business such as massage and spa in the same locality.
Miss Tamayo thought that she had better chances in the massage and spa business. After three
years, the firm’s average monthly income sales were P150,000. Except for the manual labor
provided by his three hairdressers.Miss Tamayo was personally handling every facet of the spa
and massage activity, from purchasing raw materials to actual delivery of service to the
customers. Despite being successful in her business, Tamayo desires to run a bigger business.

In the case study, Tamayo Beauty Salon should develop essential marketing strategies, which
are the people. It is important in the marketing of any product or services. It was stated that Miss
Tamayo was personally handling every facet of the spa and massage activity, from purchasing
raw materials to actual delivery of service to the customers, which is one of the strategies that
customers will choose to come to you. Having good services can truly satisfy your
customers.Miss Tamayo put up a new business in the same locality. She thought that her career
was at a dead-end. In order to avoid this situation happening again, she should use some of the
marketing strategies such as advertisement, flyers, tarpaulins and social media to reach out her
target market and to promote her business. Running the business alone is hard, Ms. Tamayo
should hire a manager to manage her salon under her supervision, in addition she should also
hire or recruit experienced applicants for her salon to avoid complaints from the customers of
the lack of employees.

III. Case Evaluation

The main focus of this study is Ms. Tamayo's struggle on how to satisfy her customers and how
to manage her business. As Ms. Tamayo's business is getting bigger, she finds it hard to
manage as she is the only one who is managing it, adding to her confusion, she hasn't found
out what exact assistance she needed and wanted in order to have a successful business. She
is experiencing this dilemma because of the lack of employees and the absence of an assistant
on her side. Evidence of it are the complaints she often received from her customers because of
the lack of hairdressers and massagers they got. In order to know what she will decide upon
making her business big, she should hire a manager to help her manage and recruit people for
her salon and spa business, and also to help her in decision-making and solving problems of
the business in the near future.

IV. Proposed Solution

Mrs. Tamayo can indulge her salon and spa business and can change it into a wider place. She
can also add another business in her salon or make extra income by selling magazines like
people used to do when going to parlors. She can also hire a manager to manage her salon.
She can also recruit workers that have experience in salons or have a background in the field.
She can make contracts for the workers to avoid complications and unprofessionalism. She has
to create a solid and consistent long-term market plan. She can also promote her business
online, if given a chance, communicate with potential investors that could support her business
on a long-term basis.

V. Conclusions

Therefore, in order to have satisfactory customer service, Ms. Tamayo must hire experienced
workers who are also good at communicating with the customers. Ms. Tamayo also needs to
create a solid marketing plan on how to promote and expand her business. Implementing the
following recommendation can result in a better business environment and could increase the
customers satisfaction, having such marketing strategies could level up the status of the
business and could lead the business into success. Thus, this is all essential in the making of a
bigger and expanded business, setting Miss Tamayo in the right track for her desired business
and should be continued for a long-term basis.

VI. Recommendations
For me, there are some marketing strategies that Miss Tamayo should consider like a client can
get 50 percent off their cut if they bring a friend, or gets 10 percent off for every friend who
comes to the salon and mentions the client’s name. Trying these strategies with full priced sales
ensures your customers get a bonus, but your profit remains stable. Ms. Tamayo can combine
her salon and spa in just one business and she has to make sure of the place where her
business is spacious to make customers comfortable. Upon making her business big, she
should also consider upgrading the tools and materials inside her spa and salon, and in hiring
new workers she should be meticulous about it and choose those excellent and trust worthy
workers with good background in this field. To remain stable on a long-term basis, Tamayo
should consider looking for potential investors and persuade them.

VII. Implementation

Upon hiring new workers, Miss Tamayo should first hire someone to assess her, someone to be
assigned in human resources and can also be a manager to help for the recruitment and
managing her business. Aside from choosing an applicant who has an excellent skill, they
should also consider hiring someone who is good at communicating with the customers. Having
10 percent off for every friend who comes to the salon and mentions the client’s name has to be
a short-term marketing strategy, like for the first one month of the opening of the expanded
business, we cannot always give a percent off for a long-term, right. It is to avoid a real-time
bankruptcy, considering that a business isn't always that stable. A 50 percent off if they bring a
friend could be long-term or mid-term, like, applying it when there's a holiday or certain events,
like Christmas, Valentine's, New-year and other, could be also every once in a month like, 11.11,
08.08 or 12.12, Miss Tamayo is an entrepreneur after all she can't just always put her business
on sale, specially now that she has more workers to pay and materials to maintain. To avoid
carrying all the expenses, Miss Tamayo should create a business proposal and propose it to
potential investors, only if the financial burden is heavy to carry. And Lastly, the Visual, her
business should be pleasing to the eyes to be able to pull customers.
