CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

Introduction

Who would have thought that emotions, memories and scents can be brought back with

just one photo? There is no better way to represent memories than picture. The best approach to

preserve the lovely landscapes that nature has given us as well as to remember those priceless

family moments and different events. This is why capturing moments in your life is imperative

and it is where photography takes place.

Taking photographs allows individuals to have a memory of the significant events and

people in their life. Such as the occasions of birth, weddings and anniversaries, holidays and

celebrations are all documented because they are significant (O'Neill, 2012).

Photography is becoming popular in the digital age, and has become something that

everyone can participate in. The way people read images has completely changed, and access to

images is faster and more convenient than ever before. Everyone comes into contact with

and talk about photography consciously or unconsciously. Photography manifests itself in

social events (such as news reports) as well as in everyday life (such as recording the trivialities

of life). Corporately, photography can now be a source of income and living for individuals who

are into the industry through putting up photography businesses. It offers a wide range of services

including portraits, corporate and events such as weddings and birthdays and more. Shades,

tones, smiles, delight, and even despair reflect and capture photographer’s creativity.

Despite the fact that the photography industry is competitive, many photographers have

been able to discover their niche and establish a long-term career. With the countless celebrations

happening in the life of each individual in each day, Negocio de Fotografia is a photography

business which will become part of the life’s momentous events of each customer. It also allows

customers to have the opportunity to capture and document moments they wanted to cherish and

treasured for the rest of their lives. This photography business will offer optimum services and

outputs including high-quality photos.

Objectives of the Study

Negocio de Fotografia is a business to cherish and treasure the value of photography and

have fun with its customers. Generally, this study aims to determine the attainability and

feasibility of establishing a photography business at Plaridel, Santiago City offering photography

services to each valued customer. Specifically, this study aims to meet the following objectives:

1. To assess the chances of success of the proposed business.

2. To gauge interest of target customers in the services offered by the proposed

business.

3. To analyze the competitive strengths of the proposed business whether the business

will be able to compete effectively against other competitors.

4. To examine the financials of the proposed business in order to determine financial

benefits of the action over its costs.

Review of Related Literature

A. Foreign Studies and Literature

Photos are powerful. In every society, there is a way of telling stories. It is a way of sharing

information from one generation to the next. Photos play a significant role in all that. One of the

most fascinating things is when you look at the photo album in your family. You will be able to

understand what was going on back in the days. The memories that photos preserve are important

to you and future generation. Photos are very important because they are going to open your mind

and allow you to see things in a different perspective. A society can be influenced by

photography. This would happen where images evoke emotions and inspiration, influencing the

direction many might take in life. You can look at a photograph and be reminded of a particular

occasion.

Taking photos is very common today. You have done it or at least you have had your photos

taken at a social or business event. The question then begs; why is photography so important for

any occasions. Whenever you organize or host an occasion, it is important to plan and budget for

photos. It is advisable to get services of a professional photographer. You get memories of the

emotions and activities that took place. Having access to your photos is very important as a way

of preserving your memories. It is very nice when you can look back at a stage in your life

through the photos that you have safely kept. It is a record that reminds you of the various

memories that you have shared with others

There are many reasons why photography is important in your occasions. In the course of

your life, you are going to have opportunities to attend or host events. These are the occasions

that require you to capture and record memories. Having a professional photographer would be a

good idea. You are going to get high-quality photos that will tell the story of your event. Here are

a few occasions when photographs should be taken such as dinner with family or friends,

engagement and weddings, birthdays, when on vacation, your new home or house, business

meetings or events, graduation party, gender reveal and celebrating a new born baby. The idea is

to ensure you capture and record every occasion that is important to you. In the future, you will

look back and appreciate that fact that you have memories of that particular moment. (Joe, 2022)

With the popularity of the photography industry in America perpetuated by social media,

blogs, and other networking sites, thousands of self-employed photographers have set out to

make a living documenting the most important day of some people’s lives. Digital photography

appeals to many for its convenience but having a camera does not make one a professional

photographer. What separates the hobbyists from the professionals is the development of skills

and creative vision and the proper legal and business licensing to make a profit off of their

photography. The photography industry is comprised of skilled vendors and creative service

providers dedicated to providing beautiful and quality products. (Owens, 2015)

There are many reasons why you should be investing in professional photography. One of

the benefits of hiring a professional photographer is that they pay attention to the details. And the

details can have a huge impact on the end result of a photo. In addition to having the right

equipment, they will also know how to use it. The result is that these tools will help them produce

Professional photographers are people who truly enjoy what they do and are skilled at getting the

photographer’s time and commitment, but most importantly you’re investing in their advanced

every detail. Not only will they be there for every shot, but they’ll always make sure everything

B. Local Studies and Literature

History is the study of the past. But when it comes to Philippine photography, the term is

more complex than it seems. Sure, there are photographs of important historical events, but what

makes a photo “historical”? We can all agree that just showing up and pressing the shutter is no

longer enough to make a photograph “modern day.” Today’s photographers are working

creatively to capture their slice-of-life view of Philippine culture and they’re sharing their photos

in social media. This democratization of photography is bringing the art form to the masses.

On today’s social media, it is very common to see the works of amateurs being presented as

the works of professionals. It is also very common to see people wrongly using the term

“Photographer” when referring to themselves. Being a photographer is more than owning a

camera and pointing it at something. It’s not just about pointing a camera at something and taking

a picture. In fact, there are numerous other factors that are involved in the process of being a

photographer.

You have probably heard of digital photography, and many people have a basic

understanding of what digital cameras and social media are. But, if you are like me, you still need

to learn more about these two topics. In this post, you will learn more about these two subjects

that are changing the way we share images.

Every time we share a photo on our social media accounts, we’re telling a story. Our friends

and followers have a much more intimate experience with us and our lives, going beyond words.

At the same time, those posts can reveal a lot about who we are, and help shape how we are

perceived in society. For example, if you’re the type of person who shares photos of themself and

their pet, this may make you seem more caring and compassionate. If you’re always sharing

photos of you and your partner, this may make you seem more loving and caring

A photograph’s value is a complex concept to boil down into a simple answer. Value is

driven by many things, including aesthetics, rarity, and personal connection, but in the end, it’s

all about what someone is willing to pay for a piece of work. That said, there are plenty of factors

that can influence how much someone is willing to pay for a photograph. For instance, a selfie

taken at the perfect moment, featuring a celebrity or recognizable subject, is likely to be worth

more than a selfie that features a stranger or everyday subject.

Having a great camera is an advantage, but it isn’t everything. It doesn’t matter how big your

pixels are, how many megapixels are in your sensor, or how many AF points your camera has if

you don’t know how to take a good picture. So how can you learn to take great photos? There are

lots of ways to improve your photography skills. You could read a photography book, take a

class, or just practice. The latter is by far the easiest solution, but it’s also the one that most

people never consider. Whether you’re an amateur or professional, if you have a digital camera,

all you need to do to take good pictures is to take lots of photos. The camera is a tool, use it

Significance of the Study

This study is design to determine the importance of Negocio de Fotografia in Santiago

City. This research will be important to the following group of people who will benefit from the

study.

Students. Students, particularly those enrolled in business-related courses, would benefit in a

way that they may acquire ideas and knowledge.

Businessmen and Entrepreneurs. The outcome of this study can be beneficial, particularly to

businessmen and entrepreneurs in the same field. As a result, this study attempted to offer

solutions to solutions and address the existing problem.

Potential Market. It would benefit the potential market in a way that once the feasibility study is

completed, they would have something to use as a reference to direct their  decisions, as the

results of the study may indicate the chances of success of the proposed business and the market

positioning of the study that can be used as a comparative tool against other entities of the same

type.

Future Researchers. The concepts presented may be used as benchmark data in future research.

This study will be a valuable resource for researchers who wish to conduct similar research.

Future researchers may see this research as a starting point for producing more reliable data.

They could improve and close the gaps in this study.

Methodology

This chapter explains various methodologies that were used in gathering data and analysis

which are relevant to the research. The methodologies will include areas such as research design,

respondents, research instruments and data gathering procedures.

Research Design

The study will use a descriptive design to examine the varying aspects that affect the

target market of the study. The researchers will use a survey questionnaire made by themselves as

a data gathering tool. The questionnaire contains important questions that can help in assessing

the market demand of the business, the projected revenue same as the customer’s behavior

towards the project being proposed. The instrument that will be used in this study to gather data

is a checklist questionnaire.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of this study are from the households of each barangay in Santiago City ,

such as Abra, Ambalatungan, Balintocatoc, Baluarte, Bannawag Norte, Batal, Buenavista,

Cabulay, Calao East, Calao West, Calaocan, Centro East, Centro West, Divisoria, Dubinan East,

Dubinan West, Luna, Mabini, Malvar, Nabbuan, Naggasican, Patul, Plaridel, Rizal, Rosario,

Sagana, Salvador, San Andres, San Isidro, San Jose, Sinili, Sinsayon, Sta. Rosa, Victory Norte,

Victory Sur, Villagonzaga and Villasis represented by one adult per chosen household. This study

will be conducted at Santiago City. The proponents will conduct the survey in the houses of

each household for them to feel comfortable.

Data gathering instrument

The proponents will conduct a face to face surveys through questionnaires with guided

answers to be shown in appendices. The questionnaires will be floated to the target market which

are the households of each barangay in Santiago City represented by one adult per chosen

household.

Scope and Delimitation

Negocio de Fotografia will accommodate customers in need of photographic services

such as portrait and event photography both on location and in studio sessions. Particularly,

weddings, baptismal, debut, and birthdays other than the debut. Negocio de Fotografia will cater

location shoots where the customer can choose any locations they want and studio photoshoots a

studio located at Plaridel, Santiago City will be set up according to the theme chosen by the

customer.

Sources of Data

The proponents presented a letter of approval from the Dean of College of Accountancy

and Management of La Patria College, Santiago City and presented communication letter to the

barangay captains of each barangay at Santiago City to ask permission to conduct a feasibility

study with in the vicinity. The proponents also obtained the total number of households in each

barangay of Santiago City through the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) and got

the sample size through Slovin’s Formula. The proponents used questionnaire as survey

tool.Before administering the tool, the proponents oriented the selected respondents regarding the

questionnaire they will answer and informed them about the purpose of the study. The proponents

also emphasized that the identity and privacy will be ensured and their answers to the

questionnaire will remain confidential to others and will use for academic purposes only. After

the data has been gathered, it will statistically treat, analyze and interpret by the proponents.

Definition of Terms

Capture – the action of taking photos or videos.

Customers – a person/organization that buys the services being offered by the business.

Events – an organized and planned public or social occasion such as weddings, debuts, baptismal

and birthdays other than debut.

Location shoots – shooting in the actual setting wherein the story takes place rather than in a

studio.

Memories – the faculty by which the mind of the customers stores and remembers when they see

photos or watch videos of the past.

Moments – the most special part of the event being captured and documented.

Photo Coverage – the service being covered is photo only and does not include video.

Photography – the practice of taking and processing photography.

Photography Business – the practice expertise in photo and video services which are making

one’s living by engaging in commerce.

Stories – a narrative or message that is conveyed through photo and video coverage.

Studio shoots – shooting in a room wherein the story takes place rather than in an actual setting

This chapter contains: vision and mission, product description, 4 P’s of marketing,

marketing related information of the entity, the industry, projected demand and supply, demand

and supply gap; and the company logo and trademark.

To be a well-known, competitive, and valued photography services provider. To be there

for you at all of life's most significant moments and to be with you at all of life’s simplest and

greatest reminiscences.

Mission

To broaden our imagination by creating fun experiences and not limiting customer’s

insights by offering customized photo sessions desired by the customer and providing more than

just high-quality photos and videos but also exceptional customer-service experience. To capture

stories and memories of momentous personal events with creativity and comfort in order for

those moments to be preserved, treasured and remembered in their lasting legacy.

Product description

Negocio de Fotografia is a photography business which mostly concentrating on portrait

and event photography such as weddings, baptismal, birthdays and birthdays other than the debut.

It will accommodate photo coverage and will also cater studio and location shoots. For location

shoots, Negocio deFotografiaa will also provide photo packages. For studio shootings, Negocio

deFotografiaa will rent its own location at Santiago City that will be employed for studio style

photo shoots with packages and will be set up depending on the theme selected by customers and

part of the establishment will be utilized as an office. Negocio deFotografiaa will also feature

discounts and freebies dependent upon the packages picked by the customers.

The packages of photo coverage being offered mainly focusing on weddings, baptismal,

debuts and birthdays other than debuts.

4 P’s of Marketing

Product Strategy

Negocio de Fotografia is a photography business which mostly concentrating on portrait


and event photography. Negocio de Fotografia will help the clients to look their best, keep their
photos up to date and in good shape, and capture the special moments of their lives. Customers
will be able to choose from a variety of packages that can still be customized to their preferences.
There will be different packages available for the following:

 Weddings
 Baptismal
 Debut
 Birthdays other than debut

Negocio de Fotografia will also feature discounts and freebies dependent upon the
packages picked by the customers. Photo sessions will be done on-location that will be
convenient for the client. Both indoors and outdoors are possible. The final output will be in
high-quality prints, either framed or published as a coffee table book, and will be delivered right
to the customer’s doorstep. For those clients who do not want prints, high-resolution digital
versions are accessible and available for download on a specific website so that clients can share

responsibility which will position the newly established business in order to generate sustainable

income. With this, the price of the services being offered will be based on the following key

customers, but also the expenditures necessary to enable your operation. This covers

expenditures like as taxes and insurance, a website and marketing materials, and

studio space in addition to your camera and equipment.

certain households that they wanted to capture and be remembered.

● Referral Program and Word of Mouth – Negocio de Fotografia will also establish a

referral program that offers previous customers a discount on photography services if

they suggest customers in need of photography services.

● Website & social media - Negocio de Fotografia will have a professionally designed

website where customers may browse services, prices, and schedule sessions. With

customers' agreement, the website will feature testimonials and a picture gallery.

Negocio de Fotografia will have Facebook and Instagram pages. With customers'

permission. Negocio de Fotografia posts monthly or seasonal photography offers and

photographs.

Place of Distribution

Negocio de Fotografia will start its operations with the presence physical office and studio

located in Patul Road, Plaridel, Santiago City. It has an area of 4 meters by 6.20 meters and it will

be rented monthly. The designated location is good enough for a photography studio and is near
