First and foremost, I would like to thank our English

Teacher (Shilpi Ma’am) who guided us in doing these
projects. He provided us with invaluable advice and
helped us in difficult periods. His motivation and help
contributed tremendously to the successful completion of
the project. And also, this topic helped in doing a lot of
Research and i came to know about so many new things. I
am really thankful to them.

Also, I would like to thank my family and friends for their

support. Without that support we couldn’t have succeeded
in completing this project.

Statement of Purpose
The documentary “The Test: New Era for
Australian Team” was chosen by me, firstly
because I have keen interest in Cricket and
especially in Australian Cricket Team.
And secondly, I also wanted to know the
difficulties and the struggles faced by them
against the England Cricket Board (Team) and
also against the cricket world. And the sports
documentary promotes teamwork and the skills
and abilities used by the Australia’s team to get
off all the odds. Despite being strongest cricket
team, they were banned and suspended from all
formats. The documentary shows the way they
came out.

In a team meeting against the tour of Pakistan in Dubai.
Tim Paine said in the meeting, “Firstly I thank the
Australian Cricket Board for giving me the captaincy for
the country in tests. And you all including Langer sir who
have believed in me. Now let’s move towards our goal.
Firstly, remember that we are The Australia’s Team. The
team in which the world believes because of the class of
cricket our legends has set. In the past few matches we all
were arrogant and bit selfish for ourselves because things
weren’t going as per us. And this should not be now, as we
all know that earlier our team members have set a
benchmark for all of us. Remember that we are
representing our country, family, friends, sports, etc. We
are here to make Australian Proud. What are our
Expectations? So, our expectations should be Elite
Honesty, Elite Learning, Elite Mat-ship, Elite Humility
and Elite Professionalism. Our Ethos are that We respect
the game, we respect our opponent, we love playing
Cricket, we use common sense, we keep things simple and
the most important that WE PLAY HARD BUT FAIR.

The Test: A New Era for Australia’s Team, is a docuseries

following the Australian Men’s Cricket Team, offering a behind
the scenes look at how one of the world’s best cricket teams fell
from grace and was forced to reclaim their title and integrity.
The documentary revolves around the day the ball tampering
scandal was done till the day Steve Smith and David Warner lead
to Australia’s win in the Ashes by 5-0.
The 2018 Australian Ball Tampering scandal, was a cricket
cheating scandal surrounding the Australian national cricket
team. In March 2018, during the third test against South Africa at
Cape Town, Cameron Bancroft was caught by television cameras
trying to rough up one side of the ball with sandpaper to make it
swing in flight.
Then new head coach and captain was appointed and on the other
hand there were reports and investing going on for Darren
Lehmann the former Australia coach and Warner and Smith.
Despites of all these the team continued with their new coach and
captain and competed against world best teams among them the
first meeting was with Pakistan in Dubai. For the new captain
Tim Paine, the time has come to stand up when his team needs
him most. In the first test match it was impossible for them to win
but there were hopes to make the test draw. All was on Tim
Paine, 9 wickets down and 15 overs to survive for draw. Paine on
strike. And he under pressure survived and made the test draw.
But this was not the case in the second test they lost badly.
Then Ausis were to meet the no. one ranked team India and the
King Kohli, the player of perfection. Who is enough for the 10

players only. He has a 50+ average in test matches and was in
remarkable form.
In the first test Indian won by 50 runs. This was a very very bad
moment for the Australian as it was the first time, they lost on
their home town. But then the revenge was taken they won by 157
runs in the second test. This was the first win after the scandal for
the Australian team and for Tim Paine as a captain.
But in the third test Pat Cummins and Lyon gave remarkable
performance both took a five-wicket haul. But on the other hand,
the batsman wasn’t giving the class which was needed. And the
team lost India. And in media and newspaper news were at the
top stating, ‘Call for the Axe for this Man (Tim Paine)’.
Australia and India are deadlocked in the series, but when they
face off on cricket's biggest day, the Australian's face their biggest
challenge yet. Coach Justin Langer is forced to change his
outlook, if his team is to rise above.
After the test series it was now turn for One Day International
series against India. The format in which they were and are
ranked 1st all over as a team. The Australian One Day team travel
to India, facing one of the world's strongest teams, and the
world's most passionate fans. The ODI captain Aaron Finch must
overcome bad form to lead his team to a miracle victory. In ODI
the Indians started well and went off win straight 2 ODI’s. Then
Finch as a captain gave a strong answer for Australia and for
their reputation. Australians won the series 3-2. And for Langer it
was the moments where his heart had stopped pumping for a
while. As an International Coach it was first ever series won by
Australia, which was Langer dream to let Australia win under his
coaching. They keep the hopes alive for the upcoming world cups.

Now the time came for which the Australians were waiting for a
year. The Suspended players Steve Smith and Dave Warner
rejoin the side ahead of The World Cup. As they take to the field,

the team realize the shadow of the suspensions still linger, and
they must unite if they are to beat the rest of the world. They both
show cased the love for cricket and Australia as they gave
tremendous performance in their batting.
Now was the turn of The Ashes, the greatest rivalry in cricket
history between England and the Australia.
Justin Langer knows that the players he picks is paramount. He is
proven right when a shocking injury brings one of the team's
youngest players into the spotlight. Australia in The Ashes are
dependent on their star players and the master of tests Steve
Smith. Smith gave a classic performance in The Ashes he scored a
double century.

Australia is so close to winning The Ashes but the rain puts their
their hopes aside. What eventuates is one of the greatest cricket
showdowns in modern history, and leaves Langer facing the
biggest week in his entire coaching career.

But the result Australians wanted was not there. The 5-test series
went draw 2-2, one was washed away by rain. But all went well
enough through Langer. And they continued their performances
as before and the team had settled as before.

Reflection
In cricket the team is dependent 90% on the Team’s Head Coach
and teams Captain. Here in the case of Australia’s Cricket Team
after the scandal, the most valuable and the emerging heroes are
Tim Paine (Captain) and Justin Langer (Team’s Head Coach).

Here after the Ball-Tampering Scandal these two guys including

each of the team member worked extremely hard to get the team
back to no.1 from the even not consisting in the list.
Justin Langer has the quality of establishing the culture and also
has improved bench strength among the team members. These
can be learnt by us and implemented in our life also.
Also, Tim Paine, the person who has the ability to work up levels
very evidently from a young age. And the way he prepared
himself was significant feature depicted. The teamwork, love for
the sport and the nation is seen throughout the team not only in
documentary but even now it is seen in the present team.
According to me the most important thing was the motivation and
courage given by the whole team to the emerging players of the
team at the international format.
