The document discusses whether Korean pop (Kpop) is killing original Filipino music (OPM). It argues that Kpop and OPM each have their own uniqueness and Filipinos enjoy both for different reasons. Kpop songs are often upbeat with catchy melodies, while OPM songs tend to be more emotional and mellow. Filipinos can also better relate to the lyrics of OPM since they are made from the heart of Filipino artists. While Kpop is popular, OPM still has widespread popularity in the Philippines and abroad on platforms like Spotify. Both music genres will continue to evolve and coexist as Filipinos adapt to trends but remain proud of OPM's unique representation

Korean Wave is an influential global phenomenon, impacting contemporary

culture. Has Korean Pop (KPOP) been slowly killing the Original Pinoy Music
(OPM)? Take a stand and defend your answer.

Many of the people today likes different types of music. In this generation,
KPOP already invaded the Philippines. Korean pop or Kpop is a mainstream music
that originated from South Korea and it is known as part of its culture. On the other
hand, OPM refers to Philippine pop songs, it is more on ballads that were popular. I
take the stand that Korean pop or KPOP is not killing original Pinoy music. There are
still reasons why even up to this generation OPM is still alive and lots would still
choose it to listen.

I can say that Korean pop or Kpop is not killing the original Pinoy music or
OPM in the sense that both music has its own uniqueness. We, Filipinos, love Kpop
and OPM in different ways. As we can see the OPM songs is more to be emotional
and more mellow which people would love to listen when they are on emotional
states. While Kpop songs are more likely to be upbeat with those catchy melodies
and lyrics.

In Kpop, it has the entertainment such as performance on stage. We always

see them dancing and singing. The difference between the two music would always
bring impact. Filipinos still love Opm because they can relate especially to the lyrics
because it is made from the heart and we can easily understand the meanings on
the songs. We might listen to KPOP but still wouldn't forget how unique the OPM
are.
Another thing is that original pinoy music or OPM portray good waves both
here in the Philippines and other countries. According to rappler.com, OPM content
has garnered close to ten billion streams on Spotify so we can really see that the
widespread popularity of OPM within and other parts of the country really featured. It
also showcases its unique culture on the most important voices in the Filipino music
industry.

While we are revolving and upgrading in music because there are a lot of
composers, the originality of the pinoy music would crave in our hearts. In these
generation, people have noticed the popularity of Kpop and it will be around for a
long time. I would always say that it's not bad idea to adapt to these trends but we
can't also deny the fact that OPM is also bringing its own uniqueness. We Filipinos
should be proud and we should never look down on what represents us.
