Diagnostic and Calibration Modes

Before carrying out some diagnostic tests, set the DECU to the applicable diagnostic mode.

Four diagnostic modes are available.

• Test Run Mode automatically sets the power control to H power band engine rpm and the pump control solenoid
current to a fixed value. This mode is intended to enable hydraulic test results, such as cycle times, to be
compared against normal values.
• Pressure Switch Status Mode enables live monitoring of all the hydraulic pressure switches on the machine. The
pressure switch status is shown graphically on the DECU LCD (Liquid Crystal Display). Use this mode when fault
finding systems that use inputs from pressure switches.
• Fan Test Mode (if applicable) automatically selects the H+ power band and drives the cooling fan at 70% of its
maximum speed. Use this mode to confirm correct operation of the cooling fan.
• Power Band Input Status Mode displays the machine control values set by the hand throttle control.

Two calibration modes are available.

• Throttle Actuator Calibration Mode

• No Load Throttle Calibration Mode

The DECU LCD can be also be set to display the status of the following parameters.

• Battery voltage
• Alternator voltage
• Coolant temperature
• Hydraulic oil temperature
• Fuel remaining

Pressure Switch Status Mode

To select the pressure switch status mode, proceed as follows.

1. Start the engine and enable the hydraulic controls.

2. Select the diagnostic mode screen and then select the
pressure switch status mode symbol. The pressure
switch status screen displays the applicable pressure
switch symbols.

2.1. When a symbol on the status screen is grey, the

applicable pressure switch is not active.

Throttle Actuator Calibration Mode

If the target engine speed and the actual engine speed do not match, or is not achievable then the throttle actuator may
need to be re-calibrated. The linear actuator can be cycled from idle to its maximum stroke by a CAN (Controller Area
Network) message.

To activate throttle actuator calibration, proceed as follows.

1. Switch on the ignition. Do not start the engine.

2. Select the diagnostic mode screen and then select the
throttle calibration mode symbol.

No Load Throttle Calibration Mode

This calibration mode enables the DECU to record the throttle actuator position for no load engine speeds.

Before attempting no load throttle calibration, calibrate the throttle actuator. The DECU will not enter the no load throttle
calibration mode if there is no valid throttle actuator calibration data.

To activate no load throttle calibration, proceed as follows.

1. Start the engine and isolate the hydraulic controls.

move from idle to its full throttle position. The
percentage travel of the actuator and the engine
RPM displays on the DECU. The DECU stores the
engine RPM value at set points in the throttle
actuator travel. This data is used to ensure that
the correct engine RPM is set for the selected
power band.

3. When the calibration is complete the DECU will exit the
calibration mode and the throttle actuator will return the
engine to low speed idle.
