Edc Lab Report

The document describes an active low pass filter circuit using an operational amplifier. It contains a theory section explaining how active filters differ from passive filters in that they provide signal amplification. The circuit diagram shows an op-amp connected to a basic RC low pass filter to provide gain. The document also includes sections on components, observations, applications and conclusions.

INTRODUCTION
• Low Pass filter is a which passes all frequencies from DC to upper cut-
off frequency fH and rejects any signals above this frequency.
• In ideal case, the frequency response curve drops at the cut-off
frequency. Practically the signal will not drop suddenly but drops
gradually from transition region to the stop band region.
• Cut-off frequency means the point where the response drops -3dB or
70.7% from the pass band. Transition region means the area where
falloff occurs.
THEORY
• Active Filters contain active components such as operational amplifiers,
transistors or FET’s within their circuit design. They draw their power from an
external power source and use it to boost or amplify the output signal.
• Filter amplification can also be used to either shape or alter the frequency
response of the filter circuit by producing a more selective output response,
making the output bandwidth of the filter more narrower or even wider. Then the
main difference between a “passive filter” and an “active filter” is amplification.

• The most common and easily understood active filter is the Active Low Pass
Filter. Its principle of operation and frequency response is exactly the same as
those for the previously seen passive filter, the only difference this time is that it
uses an op-amp for amplification and gain control. The simplest form of a low
pass active filter is to connect an inverting or non-inverting amplifier, the same as
those discussed in the Op-amp tutorial, to the basic RC low pass filter circuit as
shown.

other mechanisms used to make
this function easier.
CONCLUSION
• The behavior of low pass filters is useful in applications requiring
filtration of a signal, often in digital and audio uses. In digital
applications the filter can be used to smooth sets of data, as well as
in analog to digital conversion. For audio applications, the low pass
filter is used to smooth out audio signals.
• What are the advantages and disadantages of low pass filter?
• Low-Pass filters can easily remove aliasing effects from a circuit, which makes the circuit
working smoothly.
• Low-Pass Filters are cost-effective so that it can be used easily.
• Low-Pass Filters have low output impedance; thus,it prevents the filters cut-off frequency
from being affected because of the load.
