JD Edwards EnterpriseOne A Flexible Architecture JD Edwards EnterpriseOne applications run on top of a robust, flexible, and highly configurable architecture. Various components, such as logic servers, database servers, and web servers cooperate to provide a scalable and configurable technology platform that accommodates enterprises of all sizes, user counts, industries, and geographies. Companies sometimes invest weeks to design, implement, and test the architecture that exactly meets their needs. However, not every implementation of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne requires such rigorous attention during the installation phase. Many customer scenarios can be accommodated by a fundamental configuration on a preconfigured technology stack. Providing a rapid installation of a base configuration, yet allowing for modification, yields the best of both worlds. Oracle VM templates for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne deliver this solution. Oracle VM Templates Oracle VM is Oracles state-of-the art virtualization offering. Oracle VM can be applied to address many IT issues, for example, server consolidation, disaster recovery, and high availability. Oracle VM templates are particularly effective in addressing the issue of rapid application deployment. Oracle VM can encapsulate the complete configuration of a virtual server into a data filea template (see Figure 1). This template can be used to create a new virtual machine, which then functions exactly as the original virtual machine. Oracle provides many such templates for its products, which customers can use to rapidly deploy applications and technology products.

VM Templates for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Simplifying Success Oracle has applied this capability of Oracle VM to deliver virtual machine templates for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. Three Oracle VM templates contain preconfigured images of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne enterprise, database, and HTML servers. These templates include the complete technology stack necessary to run the server: operating system, database, web server, and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne tools and applications. Instead of the traditional installation process, which can take many days or weeks, you simply copy the three templates into an Oracle VM environment and execute a run once script for each template. The script prompts for inputs, such as unique server names and IP addresses. When the scripts complete running, usually in a matter of minutes, the resulting virtual machines for the enterprise, database, and web application servers comprise a fully functioning JD Edwards EnterpriseOne environment-you can log in and execute applications almost immediately! Once the virtual machines are running, they function the same as servers installed the traditional way. You can add users, set up security, customize applications, and apply Oracle Business Accelerators in the same way you would with any other JD Edwards EnterpriseOne system. To complete the configuration, a specialized JD Edwards EnterpriseOne deployment server is provided to match the other preconfigured servers. The deployment server enables updating, patching, and the complete build/deploy process for custom modifications. Built on a Complete Oracle Stack The Oracle VM templates for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne encapsulate a complete system, including operating system, database, web server, and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools and Applications. The stack is built with Oracle technology and application products: Oracle VM Oracle Enterprise Linux Oracle Database Oracle Internet Application Server or Oracle WebLogic Server Hardware Requirements The JD Edwards EnterpriseOne system that results after installing the templates is a fully functioning system suitable for production as well as nonproduction uses. The minimum hardware requirements are modest enough to allow inexpensive provisioning of training, demonstration, and sand box environments. The system is pre-tuned to accommodate up to 100 users. Using the facilities within Oracle VM, these specifications easily can be increased to establish virtual servers with the capacity to accommodate hundreds of users. Table 1 provides information on minimum hardware requirements.

An Ideal Complement to Oracle Business Accelerators The rapid time-to-value of this offering is ideally suited to implementations that leverage the Oracle Accelerate program. Wherever customers would benefit from an accelerated implementation phase using Oracle Business Accelerators, they will also realize similar benefit by accelerating the installation and technical configuration using Oracle VM templates. The two offerings complement each other ideally to reduce the time, cost and risk of the entire implementation cycle.
