Project A

Senior Management have been extremely happy with your ongoing commitment to the company and team throughout the COVID
Pandemic. They have decided to acknowledge your hard work and promote you as the new team Manager.

Throughout the COVID Pandemic all staff in the company have had to transition to a working from home model. This has
presented some challenges when it comes to collaborating and sharing ideas effectively. Senior Management want you to develop
critical and creative thinking within the team and feel that these essential skills will benefit the team and the organisation.

To ensure success with this important initiative, you have been tasked with the following:

Task
Prepare a detailed report and process that interprets the relevant models of critical and creative thinking that you can apply
within your team. Include the strategies you will use to identify systems or processes in the organisation that could act as
barriers to critical thinking, and how you will help your team overcome them.

In the report include how you will be able to monitor and evaluate the interactions and inputs of team members and their
contribution to problem solving and decision making in order to help them improve their thinking practices.

Completing Project A will assist to answer Project B and Project C in an easier manner.

Include the role, value and benefits of critical thinking, e.g.:

 explain the key features and applications of critical and creative thinking concepts

 the different models that might be useful in the workplace

Include a series of questions to identify the skills gaps of employees and how you will organise formal or informal methods of
addressing them, e.g.:

 coaching

 mentoring

Strategies
Look at strategies that will let you identify systems or processes in the organisation that act as barriers to critical thinking, and help
teams overcome them by providing information on, e.g.:

 suitable support and learning opportunities

 ensuring that the workplace is a safe environment for asking questions and practicing/ using new skills

 helping employees overcome constraints and limitations

 making sure resources for the development of critical and creative thinking skills are available as needed

 ensuring that team members are given suitable opportunities to apply critical thinking skills to workplace problems

 ensuring that team members have access to the internal and external information they need and:

o can apply critical and creative thinking in the context of workplace objectives

o can apply critical and creative thinking in the context of processes and resources

 giving constructive feedback to team members regarding their application of critical and creative thinking

 using feedback from teams and individuals to improve learning programs and identify any additional support that
might be needed

Processes
Include a suitable process to monitor the skill development of individuals in the team by, e.g.:

 reviewing the results of their problem-solving activities

 reviewing the results of their creative output

 asking questions

 helping them to self-assess and reflect on their thinking processes

 gathering feedback from the team regarding the support they need and improvements they think should be made to
training, coaching or mentoring processes

 using feedback from team/ members and other stakeholders to determine future learning needs

 Provide feedback and encouragement to team members and develop recommendations for future learning
arrangements/programs.

Project B

CASE STUDY
Having completed the detailed report and process, Senior Management have decided that as part of the new skill initiative they
would like you to develop the teams emotional intelligence. They feel this will assist the team to manage the ‘new normal’, their
own mental health and create a more positive team dynamic.

Task 1
To prepare for this added initiative they have asked you to reflect and evaluate on your own ‘Emotional Intelligence’ by measuring
your emotional strengths and weaknesses.

Use the following evaluation criteria to complete a self-awareness chart with your own self-evaluation:

 self-awareness

 self-management

 social awareness

 relationship management

Review and analyse emotional triggers and interactions and add these to your chart, e.g.:

 record how you react to others

 seek feedback from others

 recognize instances when you experience strong emotions

Task 2
Develop a 2-page professional business case study explaining how emotional intelligence can be applied to two different work
tasks, e.g.:

 communicating with a diverse workforce

 utilizing feedback

You must also include how this will assist you in promoting the development of emotional intelligence in your own team.

Length: 2-pages

INDIVIDUAL VLOG ASSESSMENT


Vlogging helps you to reflect on the things you have learnt, and it allows you to share your experiences with other students and
lecturers. Your task is to create a video ‘report’ on the Task below. This involves ‘telling a story’ about your new knowledge in
relation to the subject and giving an impression of the atmosphere.

TASK
Part 1
You will produce a vlog to be presented to Senior Management explaining how critical and creative thinking concepts and
approaches can be applied in the workplace successfully whilst simultaneously developing emotional intelligence within your team
that benefit the team and the organisation.

Ensure your vlog includes the following:

 Supporting an environment for your team or work area that encourages the application of critical and creative
thinking methods

 How you intend to ensure team members have access to the information they need and know how to apply critical
and creative thinking to existing workplace objectives, processes and resources

 What systems will be in place to help team members over-come constraints, limitations or barriers

 What process will be in place when organising and facilitating relevant learning opportunities for your team – formal
and informal

 What types of questions have been developed and how do they prompt questioning to broaden knowledge and
understanding of your team

 How will the team be monitored to ensure skill development and gathering feedback is effective from the team

 What systems are in place for providing feedback from the team and other stakeholders to determine future learning
needs

 What systems are in place for providing feedback and encouragement to team members

 Developing recommendations for future learning arrangements/programs

 cover all aspects of the evidence requirements for this particular unit

 show that you used critical thinking and that you followed appropriate processes to help team members develop
useful and usable critical and creative thinking skills

 explain how you were able to promote the development of emotional intelligence in your team

Supporting Information
What is a Video Blog (or VLOG)? A vlog is a video commentary of your personal view or opinion on something – in this case the
Tasks below. You will produce a visual telling a personal story about the Tasks.

Is it an individual assignment or a team assignment? You work individually for this assignment, and it must be recorded in
English.

What is the length of the VLOG? We expect every student to make a vlog no more than 3 minutes. To ensure it allows for
maximum creativity.

What is the deadline for submitting the VLOG? The VLOG is going to make up part of your grades for finals.

Where do you upload the VLOG? It is to be uploaded here in the eVERSITY platform as a video upload.

Does your vlog need a theme? Yes, it must showcase this subject and task.

Which elements does your vlog contain? Clearly mention your name plus subject on the title shot of the vlog. The video has to
show you talking to the camera, and your presentation has to be polished and professional. Film in ‘landscape’ and not in ‘portrait’.
You may include short demonstrations.

Do make sure, that your vlog does not include footage that you cannot account for, because this might be considered an
infringement of copyright. You are liable for this personally.

You may have transitions, texts on the screen, or any other extra embellishments or special effects, as long as these
embellishments do not distract from the contents. You may also include visual material.

Bibliography. A list of the sources of information that you have used to construct your video must be cited on the final page/screen
image of your vlog such as credits. These must be formatted appropriately.

How to produce a VLOG:


The video can be made on any one of the following recording devices: video camera, digital camera, webcam, phone camera.
The quality should be sufficient to meet the standards for visual/audio presentation and uploading on YouTube. Acceptable file
formats include .mpeg, .avi, .wmv or .mov (not moviemaker project files).

What happens with the Individual VLOG afterwards?

All vlogs will be assessed by your teacher. Teachers will select the top VLOG for their class.

A panel of student assistants will draw up a shortlist of best vlogs of the semester across each class.

After that a jury will decide on which student has produced the best one for each campus.

The winning Student VLOG will be awarded a prize.

The top vlogs will be showcased for all students to view via social media.
