1. GENERAL INFORMATION

1.1. Introduction

Engineering and geological survey at the site “Construction of a plant for the production
of soda ash in the Sarysu district of the Zhambyl region were carried out in April 2019 by SP
Zhusanbaev Zh.K.” state license №17009699 issued by the Agency of the Republic of
Kazakhstan for Construction and Housing and Utility Services.

The purpose of the survey is to study the engineering and geological conditions of the
construction site at the stage of the construction design.

A preliminary setting out and positioning of geological openings is performed

instrumentally by the topographer Syzdykov E.

Fieldwork performers are engineer-geologist Zhusanbayev Zh.K and a drilling brigade

consisting of: a drill master Liginovsky A. and an assistant drill master Kovylin A.V.

In order to study the geotechnical and hydrogeological conditions, 6 wells were drilled at
a depth of 20.0 m each.

The wells were drilled using a UGB - 50M d-168 mm drilling rig. Disturbed soil samples
were taken from the well.

At the end of the well drilling, as well as sampling of the disturbed soil, the openings
were eliminated by backfilling with the drilled soil.

Physical and mechanical properties of soils were investigated in the soil science
laboratory in accordance with the current GOST standards.

Office processing of field materials and laboratory analyzes, as well as the preparation
of the geotechnical report were carried out in accordance with the regulatory and technical
documents in force in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Report on engineering and geological conditions for the project: “Construction of a
plant for the production of soda ash in the Sarysu district of the Zhambyl region” was carried
out on the basis of contract № 27-19 / SM of April 1, 2019 with SM Engineering LLP.
Field work was carried out in April 2019. Field engineering, geological and
hydrogeological work was carried out under the supervision of geologist Zhusanbayev Zh.K.
Laboratory work was performed in April 2019. Laboratory studies were carried out
under the supervision of the head of the laboratory Zagvazdina S.
Types and scope of works performed are shown in Table. № 1 and 2

Geologists Zhusanbayev Zh.K and Zhusanbayev E.Zh. participated in the office

processing of drilling and laboratory works, as well as in the design of the report.
Office and laboratory works, as well as the preparation of an engineering-geological
report, were carried out in accordance with the regulatory and technical documents in force in
the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The text part of the report, tables, applications, as well as drawings are made in the
electronic (computer) version by Word, Excel, AutoCAD programs. Survey site is located
approximately 125km in the north-west direction from the regional center of Taraz City.
The breakdown and horizontal and vertical positioning of openings was carried out by
measurements from the existing solid contours by a performer of field work.
The elevations are removed from the topographic plan of 1: 500 scale by interpolation
method.
The site plan with the location of the openings is given in the IGP-1 attachment.

2. GEOTECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

2.1. Geomorphology and terrain of the site

In geomorphological relations, the survey area is located in the foothill plain of Karatau. The
relief is uneven, hilly with a general slope to the north.

2.2. Physical and geological processes and phenomena.

The following physical and geological processes and phenomena take place in the study areas:
wind erosion and sheet erosion.

Wind erosion appears under the action of wind and is expressed in the breakdown and transfer of
particles from the surface of the earth, especially in the loosened areas.

Sheet erosion is expressed in washout, transfer and redeposition of lighter soil particles by
atmospheric precipitation in the direction of a general decrease in the area.

- surface elevations in the openings:

1. on the site 350.90 - 331.75

2. on the trace

- geological-lithological structure of the site (trace) is shown on the engineering-geological and

geologic-lithological columns and sections, drawing IGP-2

- the basis of the selection of engineering-geological elements, the definition of the design
characteristics of physical and mechanical properties of soils

Alluvial-proluvial quaternary deposits take part in the geological structure of the site. For
geologic-lithological relation within the designed structures the four geotechnical engineering
elements have been identified: 1st – topsoil; 2nd – coarse medium gravel, 3rd – sandstone. Regulatory
and design characteristics of soils are given in SP RK 1.02-102-2014.
The granulometric composition of the macrofragmental soils was determined in the laboratory, with
subsequent conversion to the percentage of the fractional composition. Physical and mechanical
properties are given according to regional studies. The aggregate of macrofragmental soils do not
possess aggressiveness to concrete and reinforced concrete structures. Corrosion activity to carbon
steel is average.
