• At school, you may have been told that adverbs end -ly and
modify verbs. That is all true, but adverbs do far more than that
description suggests.

• Adverbs can also modify adjectives and other adverbs. Although


many adverbs end -ly, lots do not
(e.g., fast, never, well, very, most, least, more, less, now, far,
and there).
Here are some examples of adverbs modifying verbs:
Adverbs • Anita placed the vase carefully on the shelf.
modifying The word carefully is an adverb.
It shows how the vase was placed.
VERBS
 Tara walks gracefully.
The word gracefully is an adverb.
An adverb that It modifies the verb to walk.

Here are some examples of adverbs modifying adjectives:

ADJECTIVES Peter was extremely pale last night.
The adverb extremely modifies the adjective pale.

The adverb rather modifies the adjective careless.

Modifying
OTHER ADVERBS Remarkably memberikan intensitas pada adverb quickly, yang
artinya cepat banget. Sedangkan quickly juga merupakan adverb
yang memberikan intensitas pada kata finish, yang artinya
menyelesaikan dengan cepat. Jadi kalimat ini bila diterjemahkan:

 Peter Jackson menyelesaikan tugasnya dengan sangat cepat.
