Abstract

Acknowledgement
I would like to express my gratitude to Netherland Maritime University College, the college I
currently attend, for including an internship in the course I am enrolled in. I'd be able to pick up
new skills outside of the classroom and acquire a sense of the working world. I was now ready to
apply what I had learned by doing it on my own through this programme after studying the syllabus
academically for six semesters in college.
I also want to express my gratitude to Keyfield Offshore for allowing me to complete my
internship at one of the businesses that charter ships in Malaysia. I gained a lot of knowledge and
had a lot of new experiences throughout my ten weeks at Keyfield Offshore. I had a great time and
will never forget being able to do my internship here.
My internal and external supervisors, Ms Fatini and Madam Haida, are also thankful. They
were a fantastic source of knowledge for me as I worked through this internship programme.
Particularly, Madam Haida, who has been a great external supervisor for me and is constantly
eager to share new information with me. In all honesty, he has taught me a lot during my internship.
Let me end by expressing my special gratitude to Madam Haida from the crewing
department along with Sir Patrick who is the head of department, Madam Baizura, Miss Shafiah
and Miss Syeril, their coworkers in the same department. They have assisted me in properly
understanding the task that was given to me, and throughout my stay, they have never forgotten
about me and consistently provide me with a new knowledges and experiences. I have enjoyed
working with this department, and I am appreciative of their kindness and concern shown to me
throughout this time.

Chapter 1 : Introduction
1.1 Introduction
Students at Netherlands Maritime University College are expected to enroll in the Industrial
Training Program after completing the sixth semester. I do a 10-week internship with Keyfield
Offshore in Taman Desa, Kuala Lumpur, as part of the industrial training programme. One
organisation that offers services in offshore chartering is Keyfield Offshore Company, with a
particular emphasis on the charter of Accommodation Work Boats (AWB), which are used to assist
offshore tasks including Topside Maintenance, Hook Up & Maintenance, and Coil Tubing. In
addition to offering food services for ships, this organisation also supplies crew for the vessel.
Their AWBs are able to serve different industries in addition to the upstream oil and gas industry,
which they primarily serve.
Keyfield Offshore, a corporation with a site in Taman Desa, Kuala Lumpur, rents out
Accommodation Work Boats ("AWB") and provides related onboard services like lodging,
catering, housekeeping, laundry, and medical support services.

Referring to the Figure 1.2.1 explaining the history of the Keyfield Group. Keyfield was
incorporated in 2013 and initially served as technical support for the Permata Arau 1 shipbuilding
project. The company entered the vessel chartering industry in the middle of 2016. The Laguna
Setia 1 was the company's first own vessel, which it received in 2017. The business obtained the
Petronas licence and Vessel Owner Operating ("VOO") from Petronas in 2018. The business will
serve as a Panel for the Petronas Petroleum Arrangement Contractor's (PACs) Drilling and Project
Activities under an umbrella contract in 2019.
In 2020 through 2022, the business was successful in expanding its fleet. In particular, 2020
marked the year that Keyfield International Berhad was incorporated. During that year, the
business received receipt of Laguna Setia 2 and continued to extend its fleet by taking delivery of
Keyfield Falcon and Keyfield Kindness in 2021. The Keyfield Grace, Keyfield Compassion, and
Keyfield Commander are three further vessels that the business has already received in 2022.
Keyfield Offshore now runs three accommodation workboats thanks to the Keyfield Falcon and
the Laguna Setia 1 and 2 (each with a 78M AWB and 208 passengers, respectively) (an 80M DP2
Hybrid AWB which can accommodate up to 200pax). Keyfield Offshore Sdn Bhd ("KOSB") also
qualified for and received the PETRONAS Vessel Owner-Operator licence in 2018, which
improved the company's position in the AWB sector and allowed it to be contacted by oil and gas
contractors to submit tenders for projects.
The following year, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (hereafter "PCSB") granted KOSB a Letter of
Award to act as a panel contractor for PCSB's drilling and project activities under the broad
contract for offshore support vessel services. They charter out third-party AWBs as necessary to
accommodate and complete work orders and contracts from our clients in addition to owning and
managing their own AWBs.

1.4 Nature of Business
The nature of business of Keyfield Offshore is act as a providing related onboard services, such as
accommodation, catering, housekeeping, laundry, and medical support services, through the
chartering of an accommodation work boat (or "AWB"). Therefore, in the below paragraphs, are
the further explanation for each service provided in Keyfield Offshore.
Keyfield Offshore has grown from its early days of offering technical assistance and technical
support for shipbuilding to become a prominent player in the chartering of Accommodation Work
Boats (AWB), a type of Offshore Support Vessel (OSV). Keyfield Offshore received knowledge
of the demands and requirements of the Malaysian oil and gas industry because to the experience
they have collected over the years of working in the shipbuilding business. Because of this, they
built LS1 and LS2 with the goal of providing them with full force and accessories to fulfill a variety
of offshore tasks.
They bought an 80M DP2 Hybrid Accommodation Work Boat called Keyfield Falcon to allow
them to take part in DP2 vessel tenders in an effort to grow their fleet and market share. To
accommodate and complete work orders and contracts from customers as needed, in addition to
owning and running AWBs of one's own, the company may also charter AWBs from third parties.
Through the charter of our own AWBs as well as outside AWBs, our Group has so far finished a
number of offshore projects for major Oil & Gas firms in Malaysia, including PETRONAS
Carigali.
Keyfield Offshore offers crew sourcing, crew management, and provisions to be loaded onboard
the vessel as part of their ship management services. Our ship management offerings meet the
standards established by Jabatan Laut Malaysia.
Keyfield Offshore is also one of the company that offer catering services onboard both
their own ships as well as third-party vessels. Their catering options can be customized to fulfill
any particular needs specified by the vessel owner or charterer. In order to give a well-balanced
12
and healthy lunch for every crew member and passenger onboard, great effort is taken when
preparing the menu to include a good selection of meals (both western and local options). The
company guarantee that ingredients, cooking apparatus and cooking process are HALAL
compliant. In fact, trained professionals will be appointed to prepare meals for the other crew
members. Their responsibilities include creating menus and service packages, organising meal
deliveries, managing event timelines and food preparation schedules, setting up equipment to serve
food and maintain its temperature, purchasing ingredients, preparing food, and marketing their
company to attract new customers.
13
Chapter 2: Report of Organization
2.1 Introduction
Keyfield Offshore is a service provider, hence it is concerned with client relationships. The
operations and technical division may drastically alter the services provided to clients. An
operations department oversees the entire operational and technical process from start to finish.
These assembly line tasks must be appropriate for other company divisions' goals and
responsibilities. There are four departments under the operations and technical division: technical
14
and operations; procurement; crewing and catering, to which I was assigned; tender and
commercial; and health, safety, and environment (HSE).
15
Figure 2.2.2: Organizational Chart for Corporate and Finance Division.
This division also reports to the Chief Executive Officer, Dato Darren Kee, and is managed
and answerable for by the Chief Financial Officer, Eugene Kang. These departments include
corporate affairs, finance and accounting, and human resource and administration.
The area of finance known as "corporate finance" focuses on how businesses handle issues
like funding sources, capital structuring, accounting, and investment choices. Corporate finance is
concerned with how companies finance their operations to increase profits and save costs. It also
addresses long-term financial objectives as well as the daily operations of a business' cash
flows. Corporate finance is concerned with managing cash flows, accounting, creating financial
statements, in along with capital investments.
16
2.3 Departmental Structures
During my internship for 10 weeks, I have been assigned under the crew department which
the Vice President is Sir Patrick Lim, Madam Nurul Haida as Assistant Manager Crewing as well
as my External Supervisor, Syeril Adiba as Senior Executive Crewing, Shafiah Nabihah as
Assistant Crewing, and Norbaizura as Senior Executive Crewing. This department's primary
responsibility is to allocate crew onboard of vessel. Making sure the crew's documents and
certificates are sufficient and appropriate for their levels is one of the responsibilities. Throughout
my 10-week internship in that area, I have assisted everyone in the department and gained a
complete understanding of the crewing job description by supporting the crewing department staff.
17
2.4 The Company’s Growth
Keyfield has grown tremendously, especially over the last 5 years. As the company
continues to grow, the company intend to put in place a more structured reporting framework and
measurable KPIs for everyone.
Figure 2.4.1: The Company’s Growth over the Last Five Years
18
3.0 Introduction
In this chapter, the valuable lessons learned, and knowledge gained during the internship
period will be covered. Aside from that, limitations experienced as well as recommendations to
overcome the limitations will be also discussed in this chapter.
3.1 Conclusion
I believe that the management team of Keyfield Offshore Sdn Bhd is doing a good job at
the moment. However, Keyfield Offshore manages to be getting on track slowly due to the quick
management, even though there are some aspects that were supposed to be improved in the future
for the improvement after facing a delay because of the global pandemic. They can also keep
working toward their goals. In fact, over five years, the company has growth tremendousely.
Since each department will be connected to the others in some ways during my stay, I was
able to comprehend the value of communication between them. I am incredibly appreciative of the
chance to work for Keyfield Offshore during my internship since it has allowed me to learn and
experience a bunch of new things that I would not have otherwise.
19
3.2 Suitability of Organization
During my interview session with the Human Resources, I have been informed that I will
be assigned under the crewing department since the company only use external maritime lawyer
and they felt like I am not eligible to be assigned under the commercial department since I just an
“internship student”.
Overall, it was such a great opportunity for me doing my internship in Keyfield Offshore
since I learnt something new and got to adapt with new surroundings and working environment.
20
3.3 Limitation
Two limitations that can be highlighted: the location is too far, and the lack of workers.
First off, the company’s location is too far from my home. The company is situated in
Taman Desa, Kuala Lumpur. In Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur is regarded as the busiest city. For
several of the permanent employees as well as myself, the location is too distant from our place of
residence. Aside from that, due to the location in Kuala Lumpur, there was constantly traffic until
some of the employees decided to rent a house in KL to avoid the heavy traffic and save time
getting to work. As for me, I always went to the office early at 6 30 am to avoid traffic jam.
