    Exposition

    and

    Benediction
    of the
    Blessed Sacrament

    According to the English Catholic Expression


    When the priest brings the Sacrament out of the tabernacle, all kneeling, singing the following hymn:

    O Saving Victim op’ning wide * The O salutáris Hóstia, * Quæ caeli pandis
    Gate of heav’n to man below, óstium:
    Our foes press on from ev’ry side, * Bella premunt hostília, * Da robur,
    Thine aid supply, thy strength bestow. fer auxílium.
    All praise and thanks to thee ascend Uni trinóque Dómino * Sit sempitérna
    * For evermore, blest One in Three; glória,
    O grant us life that shall not end, * In Qui vitam sine término * Nobis donet
    our true native land with thee. Amen. in pátria. Amen.

    There may be a time for silence. Then, the following hymn, or another suitable devotion, is sung:

    * This great Sacrament revere; émur cérnui
    Types and shadows have their ending, Et antíquum documéntum, * Nóvo
    * For the newer rite is here; cédat rítui,

    While the Priest blesses the congregation with the monstrance, it is pious to pray during the benediction:

    Blessed, praised, hallowed, and adored be Jesus in the most Holy Sacrament.
    After placing the monstrance on the altar, the priest says the Divine Praises, all kneeling.

    Blessed be God. Benedíctus Deus.


    Blessed be His Holy Name. Benedíctum Nomen Sanctum eius.
    Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true Benedíctus Iesus Christus, verus Deus et
    Man. verus homo.
    Blessed be the Name of Jesus. Benedíctum Nomen Iesu.
    Blessed be His Most Sacred Heart. Benedíctum Cor eius sacratíssimum.
    Blessed be Jesus in the Most Holy Sacra- Benedíctus Iesus in sanctíssimo altáris Sac-
    ment of the Altar. raménto.
    Blessed be God the Holy Ghost, the Com- Benedíctus Sanctus Spíritus, Paraclítus.

    The Blessed Sacrament is replaced in the Tabernacle. All stand and pray:

    Ant. Let us forever adore the Most Holy Ant. Adorémus in ætérnum Sanctissimum
    Sacrament. (Alleluia.) Sacramentum. (Alleluia.)

    O praise the Lord, all ye nations; * L audáte Dóminum, omnes gentes:


    praise him, all ye peoples. * laudáte eum, omnes pópuli:
    For his merciful kindness is ever more Quóniam confirmáta est super nos miser-
