Possible Questions For Research Proposal
1. Of all the possible research interests, why did you choose this topic in
specific?
- Due to the current situation of education in the Philippines, the quality of
education available in the country, indeed, it is extensively evident that there
are gaps in education between the rich and the marginalized. Not all students
who go to school has the capability to go along with the technology trend.
Disparities in access to information and communication technologies (ICT)
and the knowledge and skills required to effectively use the information
among individuals, households, and other groups in the Philippines of various
demographic and socioeconomic levels are rampant and can be seen
everywhere. Thus, with this existing issue, the researchers would like to study
the current situation deeper and more comprehensively most especially in
Agusan del Sur National High School Senior High Students, as the location of
the school is located in the province, which was far from the city.
2. How are you able to measure the technological differences between the
students?
- The researchers will be utilizing survey questionnaires to determine the scale
of difference in terms of their gap in technology access.
3. In the first place, how will you determine which students are poor and
which students are rich?
- The researchers will group the randomly selected students based on their
family income monthly. For this, the researchers will set income scales to
further assess on which labels the students will fall under. Grouping the
students based on their family monthly income will give guide to the
researchers to categorize the samples accordingly.
4. Why did you only consider the family income of your respondents? How
about the other profile indicators to determine their socioeconomic status?
- Wealth and earnings are positively correlated because earnings that is saved
and/or invested becomes wealth, and wealth can be used to generate
income: families with more income can amass more wealth, and family
members with more wealth can generate more income. The distinction
between wealth and income is significant because wealth denotes possession
of a stock of assets, whereas income denotes a flow of purchasing power.
Thus, solely knowing the monthly family income of the respondents will
definitely give an indication on their socioeconomic status. Nevertheless,
considering also other indicators might be helpful to support the claim of this
study.
5. Of all the strands existing, why did you choose to apply your study to
STEM students?
- The researchers chose STEM students because it is readily available in the
population of the chosen school. Moreover, as we are studying about the
digital divide and technological gap among Filipino students, we therefore
projected that students studying under Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics strand are the most suited to participate in this study because
students under this strand are the most often to utilize gadgets and
technologies for their academic studies.
8. How will you be able to measure “the extent” in your research questions?
- The researchers will be utilizing a likert scale type of questions (Strongly
agree, Somehow agree, Somehow disagree, Strongly Disagree) to be
objective as possible. In this, the monthly family income of the students will be
assessed along with their responses for the 10 given questions. Questions
also will be constructed objectively which will create a pattern towards to
several interpretations as every question will contain different ideas/concepts.
