Part A: Designing the Ferris Wheel property in Fairfield

Question 1.
Screenshot of vacant land being used

Use of google maps and located in Fairfield NSW

Question 2.
Name of site location: Brenan Park
Address: Brenan St, Smithfield NSW 2164
GPS coordinates of land: -33.857405, 150.930808

Question 3.
Irregular quadrilateral shape outline
Used google maps for measurements
2
Total area: 1,129.84𝑚

Question 4.
Length of each perimeter:
CD = 34m
DE = 22m
EF = 38m
FC = 53m
Total Perimeter: 147m

Length of diagonal:
CE = 40m

Area of quadrilateral:
2
1,129.84𝑚

Question 5.

- Scaled drawing of the property with scale measurement included

- Six interior angles measured to the nearest degree
- All features clearly written on large diagram

Question 6. d) The scaled area differs from the Google maps region by 10.29. The similarities
include the diagonal length, which produced an exact result, and the angles, with five of them
falling within 3 degrees of the tech results. The only possible explanation is that the
measurements in the Google Maps diagram are not precise enough. This explanation is
supported by evidence. On Google Maps, the length of all sides was to two significant figures,
and the scaled length had more, making it more precise. In conclusion, the explanation of why
the area results differed was a lack of precise lengths from Google Maps.
Part B: Designing a ferris wheel and waiting area
Question 1.
2
Total property size = 1, 129. 84𝑚
2
Circular face of wheel size: 60% × 1, 129. 84 = 677. 90𝑚

Maximum Height: Research:

If 12 carts = 20m Height
Then, 1 cart = 1.6m Height
∴ 15 carts x 1.6m = 25m
This is the minimum height needed but diameter of the
wheel must be taken into account therefore the max
height will be 45m.

Suitable Size of the Cart:

If 1 cart = maximum height of 1.6m, the cart cannot
surpass 1.6m or it will crash into the ground. People
stand to get in, so it must be larger than 1.8m to facilitate
them ∴ the carts will be 2m tall. The support structure
allows the cart to be 2m without touching the ground.

Hanging Hook: half the height of the cart therefore, 1m.

Support Structure: It will be 25m tall for an even weight distribution as it is greater than the half
of 45m.

Question 2.

2D Scaled Diagram

D2

Diameter working out (rounded to 38)

I assumed edge length was the circumference of the ferris wheel and wheel
size was area. If edge length is arc length then it is 7.98m (from part C
question 1). If wheel size is diameter then it is 9.5m.
Question 3.

Question 3. (99 words)

a) Periodic function is a function that repeats itself at regular intervals. The period of a
function is an important characteristic of periodic functions, which helps to define a
function. A periodic function y = f(x), having a period P, can be represented as f(X + P) =
f(X). Some of the periodic function graphs include: sine wave, cosine wave, square
wave, triangular wave, sawtooth wave The graph of each periodic function has
translational symmetry. A ferris wheel's movement can be characterised as a periodic
function since the carts travel at regular intervals and always return to the same value.
