Capstone - Final Reflection
The Capstone is a unique and demanding challenge. In completing it, what did you learn about your
subject? Your skill set? Yourself?
- In the future, I want to work as a Software engineer and before entering the industry, I am
working on the project to get some tips and experiences.
How did you demonstrate the six Core Competencies throughout this project?
- One day, I watched a video about teachable machine and how easy to build my own AI, because
of this, I thought it would be really cool if I make a service (application or website).
Thinking about the whole process and your finished product, what are you most proud of?
- I am proud myself that I made an application what I wanted while having so much stress about
post-secondary and busy school life. This is not my best. If I had more time to work on this
project, I could bring up with a better result.
What was a difficulty you encountered and how did you solve the problem?
- The most struggle part of this project was classifying the images to train AI. When you train an
AI, you must use good images. For example, if you want to use a person’s photo, you must use
the photo that includes the full-face of the person. If the photo is side-face, or covered by hair,
they cannot be a good image. What was a difficulty you encountered and how did you solve the
problem? However, you need tons of photos to make a smart AI. To solve this problem, I had to
spend a lot of time to classify. So, selecting good images was the most difficult and important
part.
What is one thing about your finished project you wish you could change? Why?
- The design of the application. To be honest, I am bad at art including designing and I also do not
satisfy with this design. Last few weeks, I tried to learn app designing but I was running out of
time. So, if I had more time and opportunities, I would like to advance the design.
What advice would you give to a student who will be completing their Capstone Project next year?
- Start early, and work on as much as you can on free days, so you don’t run out of the time at the
end. Also record the progress even you change a little thing.
What source from your research helped you the most? (Or least?)
- I mainly searched up on YouTube to learn programming and knowledge I need to know to train
AI, app building, frame works. The most helpful sources were the videos by JoCoding. He
explains details about building applications and applying AI in it.
What is one thing about your approach to your project that you wish you could change? Why?
- Take time and research a lot before you start a project. Because I start this project without
knowing about AI and building a mobile application well. Because of this I had to send time to
learn these from the beginning. If I could change something I would like to have more time to
research and learn more about the feature l am going to use and plan well for the future.
