1 USE AND PRESERVATION OF THE INSTALLATION, OPERATION AND
MAINTENANCE MANUAL

1.1 Scope and consignee of the Installation, Operation and Maintenance Manual

The Installation, Operation and Maintenance manual gives the information required for correct
use of the MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 automobile lift, describing its physical and functional
characteristics.
The manual must accompany the lift during its entire life cycle. Consequently, if the lift is sold
to third parties the manual must also be transferred in order to guarantee the safety of the lift
operator and user.
The manual describes the following procedures:

- INSTALLATION
- ADJUSTMENT
- USE
- MAINTENANCE
- DISPOSAL

It is addressed both to the user and to the operator charged with performing the above-
indicated activities.
It specifies (when required) the personnel qualifications that are necessary with reference to
paragraph 1.2. Failure to comply with the provisions contained in this manual exonerates the
BRUNO ANGELOTTI C/O EUROPIPING S.R.L. Company from all responsibilities arising
from this negligence.
It is also hereby stated that whenever there is:

- improper use of the lift;


- use contrary to specific national standards;
- installation that does not conform to the contents of this document;
- insufficient maintenance;
- unauthorized repair or modifications;
- use of spare parts that are not original or not specific;
- failure to comply with the instructions contained in this document;

risks introduced by these circumstances. The manual cannot be a reference manual
whenever modifications are brought to the product that change the configuration of the lift. In
this case responsibility exists exclusively for any manufacturing defects.

1.2 Definitions and terminology


- User
- Operator
- Lift
- The “User” is the person who is qualified to perform everyday use of the lift.
- The “Operator” is the person (or persons) charged with installing, operating, adjusting,
maintaining, cleaning, repairing or transporting the lift.
- The term “lift”, in this document, refers to the MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 automobile
lift.

Readers of this document must interpret the term “Manual” when associated with
MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 as a reference to the present Installation, Operating and
Maintenance Manual.
Performance of the operations indicated in paragraph 1.1 must be done by persons who are
qualified for each single activity. The level of qualification refers to the activity for which the
operator is qualified in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements.

Qualification Level 1
Personnel with this qualification do not have specific training but are qualified to perform
simple operations regarding use of the lift. This qualification entitles these persons to perform
installation, adjustment, ordinary and extraordinary maintenance.

Qualification Level 2
These personnel are specifically prepared to perform electrical work. This qualification
entitles these personnel to perform installation, adjustment, ordinary and extraordinary
maintenance. Training relative to the above-indicated activities is achieved through in-depth
reading and understanding of this manual.
Personnel must, to this end, be prepared to use the controls on the
MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 control panel by carefully reading this Installation, Operating
and Maintenance Manual. The manual contains notes that call the user/operator’s attention
to a specific procedure or to a particular operation.
The notes that are inserted are of three types:

WARNING: these are important messages that indicate actions to do/not do or special
precautions to take before working with MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 lifts in
order to avoid damage to the lift.

DANGER: these are important warning messages that indicate actions to do/not do or
special precautions to take before working with MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25
lifts to avoid harm to persons.

1.3 Organization of the manual


This manual is drawn up based on guidelines coming from Machine Directive (89/392) and
the standards referred to in it. The organization of the manual is achieved through:
- ID plate identification data page (correlation with each specific lift)
- Table of contents.
- Attached documents.

1.4 Preservation of the manual


The MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 Installation, Operating and Maintenance Manual must be
available for the user at all times. As a consequence, it must be kept in a specially prepared
site in the immediate vicinity of the lift to permit proper performance of the activities for which
the lift is designed.
Preservation of the Installation, Operating and Maintenance Manual must take place in sites
protected from heat and humidity or other environmental conditions which could damage it.
The Installation, Operating and Maintenance Manual must be complete in order to give
precise and full knowledge regarding the lift’s characteristics. Check the composition of the
manual based on the table of contents.
A new copy of the manual can be requested from the BRUNO ANGELOTTI C/O
EUROPIPING S.R.L. Company if the manual is lost or irreparably damaged.

1.5 Up-dating
Publication of an up-dated version of the Installation, Operating and Maintenance Manual
does not obligate the manufacturer to up-date the present manual except for cases where
provisions have been introduced that limit the danger of the lift during performance of its
activities.

2. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

2.1 Overall lift dimensions


The overall dimensions of the MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 lift are illustrated in fig. 2-1
below.

A space at least 50 cm.must be provided around the entire
perimeter of the lift.

2.2 Appropriate user


The lift is simple to operate and does not require extra qualification supplementary to the
provisions given in chapter 1, paragraph 1.2. Correct reading of this manual is sufficient for
correct operation of the lift. Special attention must be given to aspects regarding Safety for
Man and for the Environment. Adjustment or maintenance work must be done by workers
suitably trained according to the provisions of chapter 1, paragraph

2.3 Delivery
The following list gives the parts that compose the MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 lift and
which are furnished to the Customer:

- lift;
- control unit including mobile push-button board;
- pulling tower, composed of the following parts:
 tower
 chain with clamp and hook
 pneumatic cylinder
 pneumatic pump

These parts and their operating principles are described in chapter 3 of this manual.

2.4 Lift capacity and operating limits

2.5 Operating procedure
MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 lifts are designed for manual control. All the operator needs to
do is to perform simple lift, descent and stop controls using the specific control board. No
operating conditions are called for, nor are they forecast, which could reduce operator safety
during performance of lift activities.

2.6 Safety regulations


MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 lifts are designed and built to conform to the provisions of the
applicable European Directives and in accordance with the reference standards that arise
from these. Personnel assigned with working with the lift must perform their tasks according
to the prescribed methods and pay particular attention to their qualifications and training.

before proceeding whenever situations are encountered that are not contemplated in this
manual. Failure to do so exonerates BRUNO ANGELOTTI C/O EUROPIPING S.R.L. from all
responsibilities caused by incorrect and unforseeable uses. Safety devices and safety
regulations are thoroughly discussed in chapter 6.

3 TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION OF THE LIFT


3.1 General information
MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 lifts are designed and built according to the working needs of
personnel who process automobile sheet metal in work sites such as autobody shops.
The lift makes it easier to lift an automobile, permitting it to be raised up without using
platforms.

3.2 Identification of parts


The main component parts of the lift are identified as follows:

7 Horizontal bracket for pulling tower
8 Vertical arm
9 Wheels for moving the pulling tower

3.3 Technical description


MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 lifts are designed and built to lift automobiles and to rectify
automobile frame and autobody (using external equipment). They are structured to permit
quick automobile lifting without using platforms. Their structure is ideal for being flanked by
external equipment (such as workbenches with templates, etc.).
The lift consists of a lower frame that functions as its base and which must be anchored to the
floor, an upper frame, and two lifting arms with a scissors connection and which join the upper
frame to the lower frame.
Lifting is powered by two hydraulic cylinders driven by a specific hydraulic unit inside the
control unit. The hydraulic unit consists of a motor that drives a hydraulic pump. Oil is located
in the oil tank not furnished with the unit.
The control unit also contains a pneumatic solenoid valve which, when controlled by the user,
sends compressed air to the input to the cylinder that controls the safety stop. This stop
functions to intervene and stop lift descent at various heights in case of breakage of the
hydraulic system. In this case the safety bracket strikes against one of the stops illustrated in
and anchored on the base. The user has a push-button which controls the solenoid valve and
actuates the air cylinder which lifts the safety stop bracket. When the solenoid valve is
deactivated the return spring makes sure the safety stop is reloaded.
The upper frame is made of suitably profiled square steel section bars to make it easy to
install lift accessories (automobile support brackets and the pulling tower). Installation
procedures must be performed by the user according to the guidelines given in chapter 4 of
this manual. Operating procedures are described in chapter 5.
The pulling tower is equipped with a hydropneumatic cylinder that is used to apply traction to
the automobile chassis using its hook-equipped chain. All external power supplies are made
to the control unit. The control unit also contains the main electrical supply switch.

3.4 Electric, pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams


MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 lift systems are electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic. The
following wiring and hydraulic diagrams are given to permit complete training of the worker in
order to meet his Qualification.

The pneumatic system is extremely simple and consequently
no diagram is given.

4 INSTALLATION OF THE LIFT
4.1 Transportation and handling
The lift must be transported suitably anchored to a wooden pallet whereas all other parts are
packed into a wooden crate. A fork lift must be used to handle the complete packing. The
capacity of the fork lift must be adequate (at least 1000 kg). The forks on the lift must be at
least 1.5 meters long. These same provisions are also applicable when moving the lift after it
is removed from its packing since the lift does not have any accessories that would help move
it. The control unit must be lifted by a fork lift. An overhead travelling crane and steel cables
can be used to hoist the lift when it is not packaged, connecting the cables to the lift arm
connection points to the upper frame.

! WARNING!!
Be extremely careful, when lifting and handling the lift using
an overhead travelling crane, to avoid blows, shocks or
brusque accelerations or decelerations which could cause the
lift to fall.

4.2 Storage
The lift is designed for storage in environments with the following characteristics:
- temperatures between -25°C and +55°C for long periods and between -25°C and
- +70°C for periods inferior to 24 hours;
- relative humidity between 30% and 95% (without condensation).
Storage sites with characteristics different from these cannot be used.

4.3 Unpacking
Remove packing according to the following sequence of operations:
- take the bench off the pallet
- remove the top cover of the crate

4.4 Installation
After removing its packing, and positioning the lift at or in the proximity of its installation site,
begin installation and assembly as described below:

Install the lift on a floor that is perfectly flat and level. Select a
site that conforms to the overall lift dimensions specified in
chapter 2.

- Fasten the lift to the floor using the four holes on its frame and the expansion dowels
provided.
- Install the pulling tower as follows:
• insert pin to block arm rotation
• set vertical arm on its seat in the horizontal arm
• tighten fork on cylinder
• fasten the cylinder to its bracket using pin and relative cotter pin;
• position chain slide wheel in the proper position, fastening it with pin and cotter pin
• fasten chain to bracket
• connect the external pump to the cylinder

- Connect the external compressed air supply hose to the quick connection on the drive
unit.
- Connect the compressed air hose exiting from the drive unit to the fitting on the lift.
- Connect the hydraulic system hoses on the drive unit to the quick connections on the
lift.
- Connect electrical power (400 V - 50 Hz three-phase) to the drive unit using the snap-
in plug.

! NOTE !
Refer to operating procedures described in chapter 5
regarding installation and use of automobile support brackets
and other components to mount on the lift.

4.5 Specified environmental conditions for lift operation


MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 lifts are designed to work inside autobody shops. Reference
environmental conditions for operation are as follows:
- temperature between +5°C and +40°C
- humidity between 30% and 95% (without condensation)
The environment where the lift must work must also meet the following conditions:
- the ceiling must be high enough to work under. The following calculation must be made:

Ceiling height > Automobile height + Lift height at maximum extension.
- floors must be perfectly smooth, level and horizontal to prevent risks when the loaded lift
is moved on the floor.
The lift is not designed for use in environments different from those described above nor in
special environments (explosion-proof environments, etc.).

Use of the lift in environments or situations for which it was
not designed exonerates the BRUNO ANGELOTTI C/O
EUROPIPING S.R.L. Company from all responsibilities
arising from such use.

4.6 Installation characteristics


Proper installation of MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 lifts requires a perfectly horizontal and
smooth floor to which the lift must be suitably anchored as described previously.
Installation also requires connection to an external source of electrical energy and an
external source of compressed air.

5 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
5.1 Introduction
Operation of a MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 lift requires a single operator with Qualification
Level 1.
The procedures the operator is required to perform with the lift are extremely simple given the
operating principle of the lift. The operator, during the entire time the lift is used, meaning
when the automobile is being lifted or lowered, must always remain at a safe distance (at
least 1.5 meters) from the lift, controlling lift movements from the mobile push-button board.

This safety distance guarantees greater security during lifting
and lowering maneuvers against objects or the load itself
falling off the lift.

the instructions contained in this manual.

The lift operator, before performing any lifting or lowering
maneuvers, must always make sure that there is at least 50
cm. of free space between all moving parts of the lift or the
automobile being lifted and any adjacent fixed or mobile
structures.

Never lift automobiles while they contain persons or loads.

5.2 Control and monitoring devices


LEGEND
1. White signal lamp that turns on when the main on/off switch is positioned on “I”.
2. Main electrical supply on/off switch.
3. Key-operated selector switch that activates/deactivates push-button board operation and
consequently controls lift operation. The key can be removed when the switch is in
position “0”.
4. Spring-loaded push-button to deactivate the safety stop when lowering the lift.
5. Spring-loaded push-button to control lift lowering. For total lowering this push-button must
be pressed together with push-button.
6. Spring-loaded push-button to control the lift to rise up to its maximum travel limit.

5.3 Operating procedures


The following paragraphs describe normal operating procedures that the operator
must perform with the lift.
a. Start-up.
- Make sure compressed air is supplied to the drive unit.
- Make sure the compressed air connection between drive unit and lift is correct.
- Make sure electrical power is supplied to the drive unit.
- Turn on/off switch to “I” and make sure the white signal lamp turns on.
b. Shut-down.
- Lower the mobile frame down to its lower limit.
- Turn the on/off switch to “0”.

c. Lift procedure.
- Check, after performing the start-up procedure, that there are no impediments to lifting the
lift.
- Check that the automobile (if present) on the lift is properly secured in the clamps.
- Press push-button and keep it pressed until the lift is in the desired position. Then release
the push-button.
- Press push-button to lower the lift until it reaches its mechanical safety stop. Then
release the push-button.

Before approaching the lift to work on the automobile turn
switch to “0”

d. Lowering procedure.
- Make sure there are no impediments to lowering the lift.
- Press push-button for a few seconds to raise the lift the amount required to disengage it
from its mechanical safety stop.
- Press push-button to deactivate the safety stop. Keep this push-button pressed.
- Press push-button and keep both push-buttons pressed until the lift is totally lowered
down (if an automobile is present) or (when no automobile is on the lift) until the lift is
lowered all the way down.
!!! WARNING !!!
Make sure the push-button board cable is not inside the
frame.

e. Automobile loading procedures.


- Lower the lift all the way down.
- Position the automobile on the lift, centering it as much as possible.

!!! DANGER !!!


No persons or loads must be contained in automobiles being
lifted.

- Insert sill clamps on each bracket.


- Position them under the edge of the automobile.

- Lower the automobile and repeat the same procedures on the other side, inserting the
support brackets with sill clamps on the lift.
- Adjust the height of the sill clamps, loosening screws that slide in special slots, in order to
place the automobile perfectly on the level. Then tighten them.
- Tighten screws.
- Now the lift can be raised a few centimeters.
- Position plate for each bracket and tighten its anchor screws.

f. Using the pulling tower.


- Install the pulling tower as described.
- Attach the hook on the chain to the part of the autobody to be pulled.
- Rotate the horizontal arm to the desired position and clamp it in place with its own pin.
- Connect the safety cable.
- Use the external pump to actuate the cylinder and pull the chain.

Before starting to pull, after having installed the tower and
chain, always make sure no workers or persons are near or,
especially, behind the pulling tower.

Following explanatory drawings of how to load a car onto the bench.

Drive the car over the bench

Insert brackets and lifting pads then lift the car

Position wheelstands under each tyre

Lower the car until it rests on the wheelstands.
Remove lifting pads and mount clamps.

The vehicle is now ready for the repair procedure.

5.4 Adjustments
The lift does not require any adjustments, neither during installation nor during operation.

6 SAFETY REGULATIONS
6.1 Introduction
MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 lifts are designed and built to meet the provisions of European
Directives. They refer to standardized European regulations regarding safety for Man and the
Environment.
Dangers and risk have been reduced or eliminated insofar as possible during design stages
and residual risks evidenced and/or limited.
Contact the BRUNO ANGELOTTI C/O EUROPIPING S.R.L. Technical Service Division
before proceeding whenever situations are encountered that are not contemplated in this
manual.

6.2 Protective devices


The lift does not have protective panels. The safety of the operator is guaranteed by the
presence of materials and components that ensure the efficiency and safeguard the user
himself. The control unit is totally protected by a rigid external housing which can only be
opened using a tool.
Operators, to achieve maximum levels of safety, must comply with the recommendations
contained in this document, giving special attention to the following aspects:
- training of personnel using the lift according to the provisions of the paragraphs where
personnel qualifications and training are discussed;
- use of the lift according to its design capacities, paying particular attention to maximum
lifting loads and to the types of automobiles that MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 can lift;
- use of the lift only with automobiles that do not contain loads or persons;
- check to make sure no unauthorized persons are in the work area.

Placement of new devices on the lift, or modifications to
existing devices, always requires prior authorization from
BRUNO ANGELOTTI C/O EUROPIPING S.R.L.. Failure to
do so exonerates BRUNO ANGELOTTI C/O EUROPIPING
S.R.L. from all responsibilities arising from said modifications
or new devices.

6.3 Residual risks
These paragraphs must be read with care to permit the user and/or operator to know and
understand the dangers inherent to use of the lift and consequently permit him, after reading
the entire manual, to know how to work correctly and with proper awareness.

The following residual risks are to be found in the various activities to which the lift is
dedicated:
- risk of crushing or shearing connected to descent of the lift’s mobile frame:

a) When automobiles are on the lift there is also risk, during descent, of crushing of lower
limbs under the wheels of the automobiles (if present). This risk is eliminated by total
user visibility over the worksite;

It is prohibited to work under the automobile when it is on the
lift and raised off the ground.

! NOTE !
Descent speed is very slow to permit any endangered worker
to react with sufficient speed to eliminate the risk.

- risk of the load (automobile) falling off the lift whenever there are obstacles or
impediments that contrast descent;
- risk of projection of objects from the rear part or the immediate vicinity of the pulling tower
due to breakage of the pulling chain;
- risk of shearing of the electric power cable supplying the control unit and the connection
hoses (hydraulic and pneumatic) between the control unit and the lift. The position of the
lift is maintained, in case of shearing of the hydraulic system hoses, by two check valves
installed at the oil inlet into the cylinders.

7 MAINTENANCE
7.1 Introduction
This chapter discusses ordinary and extraordinary maintenance.
The worker qualified to perform the activities described in the following paragraphs must have
Qualification Level 1. A single qualified worker must be present for each intervention. He
must work on the lift when it is disconnected from electrical and compressed air supplies.

Ordinary maintenance is all maintenance that is scheduled by the Manufacturer.
Unscheduled maintenance is considered to be extraordinary maintenance.
Maintenance that is not described in the present manual and that has a considerable
influence on lift efficiency must be agreed-upon with the BRUNO ANGELOTTI C/O
EUROPIPING S.R.L. Customer Service Division to prevent malfunctions or breakdowns
subsequent to repair which are difficult to foresee by persons who do not have a complete
understanding of the construction principles behind the lift.

7.2 Customer Service and Assistance


MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 lifts are guaranteed for 12 months. The guarantee term starts
the time of shipment or delivery.
Technical assistance is furnished by the Manufacturer or by the Importer/Distributor.

7.3 Ordinary maintenance


Ordinary maintenance procedures determined by the Manufacturer for
MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 lifts are listed in the following table. Maintenance personnel
must have Qualification Level 1.

7.3.1 CLEANING THE LIFT


Clean the lift with care, paying special attention to the zones where accessories are hooked
onto the lift and to the safety stop zone. Use compressed air or a brush that is dry or lightly
dampened with a mild detergent solution. Clean the pulling tower with a cloth that is dry or
lightly dampened with a mild detergent solution.

! WARNING!

Never use any type of solvent such as alcohol or gasoline
since this could damage surface finishes. Never use direct
jets of water.

7.3.2 CHECKING THE CONDITION OF THE SAFETY PIN


- Visually check that there are no cracks on the safety stop
- Check and eliminate any dirt in the pin zone.
- Check that there are no cracks in the pin return spring
- Control the pin by pressing push-button to check that it functions efficiently.
- Release the push-button and check that the spring reloads the pin.
- Repeat this check procedure several times.

7.4 Breakdowns or malfunctions


MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 lifts are designed and manufactured with quality controlled
materials and components. Malfunctions and breakdowns are rare circumstances and repairs
generally require very limited machine down times. Unforeseen breakdowns which may arise
during machine operation can be solved by consulting our Customer Service Division.

7.5 Extraordinary maintenance


Ask the BRUNO ANGELOTTI C/O EUROPIPING S.R.L. Service Division for information
whenever component supply or replacement is necessary.

! WARNING !

Danger situations may be created by use of non-genuine or


non-specific spare parts. These danger situations are not
caused by the lift because they alter its original configuration.
BRUNO ANGELOTTI C/O EUROPIPING S.R.L. will not be
responsible for damage to persons, property or the machine
itself in this situation.

Extraordinary maintenance must be performed by personnel with Qualification Level 1.

8 SPARE PARTS INFORMATION


8.1 General information
It is important, when asking the BRUNO ANGELOTTI C/O EUROPIPING S.R.L. Company for
spare parts for MULTICAR/MULTIBENCH 25 lifts, to specify the part code and the required
quantity as well as the part description with a detailed picture. This will help the Company to
quickly find the correct part. The BRUNO ANGELOTTI C/O EUROPIPING S.R.L. Company,
in this regard, engages to deliver these parts within 30 days starting from date of receipt of
the request. For specific needs we recommend sending these orders by e-mail to speed up
delivery. The BRUNO ANGELOTTI C/O EUROPIPING S.R.L. service and spare parts policy
calls for definition of specific levels. Whenever the Customer requires a component from a
sub-level it is at the discretion of BRUNO ANGELOTTI C/O EUROPIPING S.R.L. whether to
furnish the component or not.

9 INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISASSEMBLY AND DISPOSAL OF THE LIFT


9.1 Removal of lift connections
First remove connections between the lift and its energy sources according to the provisions
of paragraph 4.4.
Disconnect the hoses that make compressed air connections between control unit and lift.
9.2 Preparing the lift for handling
Refer to the procedures described in paragraph 4.3. Perform these procedures in reverse
order to prepare the lift for handling.
Whenever the lift is to be transported it must be packed according to the provisions of
paragraph 4.1.

9.3 Disposal of the lift


Disposal of the lift requires disposal of its component parts. These constitute waste classified
as machine parts composed of steel and aluminium alloys and of electrical parts (control unit).
These require disposal through Specialized Firms according to codes and regulations
applicable in the Country where the user is located.
It is good practice to separate and classify waste in order to simplify sending them to storage
or to waste recuperation processes.

NOTE !
Oil in the hydraulic circuit must be disposed of according to
the toxic-noxious waste disposal regulations applicable in the
Country where the user is located.
