Amy is doing a project on communication. She is listening to a radio program about Oldie Lee, an old
postman. Complete what Oldie Lee says with the correct form of the verbs in brackets. One has been

My colleagues call me Oldie Lee. I (1) (work) as a postman for 50 years but I

Task 2 Passive Voice (7 marks)

John is giving a talk about Hong Kong’s airport. Polish his speech by rewriting the underlined
sentences into passive voice.
(1) Thousands of passengers use Hong Kong International Airport every day. (2) The government
first planned the airport in the early 1990s and (3) finally opened it in 1998. Since then,
(4) many travellers have voted it as the world’s best airport.
Even though the airport is already very large, (5) the government is expanding it in different ways
now. *(6) They are going to build a third runway.
The airport is a big success but achieving this wasn’t easy and maintaining it will be hard. While
(7) the government was preparing the initial plans, (e.g.) lots of people opposed them because of
the project’s cost. However, in future travel surveys, I’m confident, (8) travellers will still vote our
airport the world’s best.

below.
Annie: Oh! My wallet is missing! (1) Nancy, did you see my purse? It’s red and green in
colour.
Nancy: (2) No, I didn’t see your purse.
Annie: (3) Can you help me to look for it now?
Nancy: Sure!
