1 Mark:
1. In Figure 𝑀𝑁 ∥ 𝐴𝐵, 𝐵𝐶 = 7.5 𝑐𝑚, 𝐴𝑀 = 4 𝑐𝑚 and 𝑀𝐶 = 2 𝑐𝑚. Find the length 𝐵𝑁.
5. In a ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶, 𝐷𝐸 ∥ 𝐵𝐶. If 𝐷𝐸 = 2 𝐵𝐶 and area of ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶 = 81 𝑐𝑚2, find the area of ∆𝐴𝐷𝐸.

6. In Figure, ∠𝑀 = ∠𝑁 = 46°. Express 𝑥 in terms of 𝑎, 𝑏 and 𝑐 where 𝑎, 𝑏 and 𝑐 are lengths of 𝐿𝑀, 𝑀𝑁 and 𝑁𝐾 respectively.
2. 𝐸 is a point on the side 𝐴𝐷 produced of a parallelogram 𝐴𝐵𝐶𝐷 and 𝐵𝐸 intersects 𝐶𝐷 at 𝐹. Show that Δ𝐴𝐵𝐸~Δ𝐶𝐹𝐵.

3. In the figure given below, 𝐷𝐸 ∥ 𝐵𝐶. If 𝐴𝐷 = 2.4 𝑐𝑚, 𝐷𝐵 = 3.6 𝑐𝑚 and 𝐴𝐶 = 5 𝑐𝑚 Find 𝐴𝐸.

1. In ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶, right-angled at 𝐴, 𝐵𝐿 and 𝐶𝑀 are the two medians. Prove that 4(𝐵𝐿2 + 𝐶𝑀2) = 5𝐵𝐶2.

2. In Fig. 𝐴𝐵𝐶 is a right triangle, right angled at 𝐶 and 𝐷 is the mid-point of 𝐵𝐶. Prove that 𝐴𝐵2 = 4𝐴𝐷2 − 3𝐴𝐶2.

In Figure, 𝑀 is mid-point of side 𝐶𝐷 of a parallelogram 𝐴𝐵𝐶𝐷. The line 𝐵𝑀 is drawn intersecting 𝐴𝐶 at 𝐿 and 𝐴𝐷
produced at 𝐸. Prove that 𝐸𝐿 = 2 𝐵𝐿.
5. In Figure, two triangles 𝐴𝐵𝐶 and 𝐷𝐵𝐶 lie on the same side of base 𝐵𝐶. 𝑃 is a point on 𝐵𝐶 such that 𝑃𝑄 ∥ 𝐵𝐴 and 𝑃𝑅 ∥
𝐵𝐷. Prove that 𝑄𝑅 ∥ 𝐴𝐷.
6. In Figure, ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶 is right angled at 𝐶 and 𝐷𝐸 ⊥ 𝐴𝐵. Prove that ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶~∆𝐴𝐷𝐸 and hence find the lengths of 𝐴𝐸 and 𝐷𝐸.

In Figure, 𝐷𝐸𝐹𝐺 is a square and ∠𝐵𝐴𝐶 = 90°. Show that 𝐷𝐸2 = 𝐵𝐷 × 𝐸𝐶.
9. In the fig., 𝐴𝐵𝐶 and 𝐴𝑀𝑃 are right angled at 𝐵 and 𝑀 respectively. Prove that 𝐶𝐴 × 𝑀𝑃 = 𝑃𝐴 × 𝐵𝐶
2. Prove that the ratio of the areas of two similar triangles is equal to the ratio of the squares of their corresponding sides.

3. Prove that, if a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle to intersect the other two sides in distinct points, the other
two sides are divided in the same ratio.
Using the above result, do the following:
In Figure, 𝐷𝐸 ∥ 𝐵𝐶 and 𝐵𝐷 = 𝐶𝐸. Prove that ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶 is an isosceles triangle.
4. If a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle to intersect the other two sides in distinct points, prove that the other
two sides are divided in the same ratio.
Using the above, prove the following:
In Fig.. 𝐴𝐵 ∥ 𝐷𝐸 and 𝐵𝐶 ∥ 𝐸𝐹. Prove that 𝐴𝐶 ∥ 𝐷𝐹.
5. Prove that the ratio of areas of two similar triangles is equal to the square of the ratio of their corresponding sides.
Use the above theorem, in the following:
The areas of two similar triangles are 81 𝑐𝑚2 and 144 𝑐𝑚2. If the largest side of the smaller triangle is 27 𝑐𝑚, find the

6. Prove that in a right triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides.
Use the above theorem, in the following.
If 𝐴𝐵𝐶 is an equilateral triangle with 𝐴𝐷 ⊥ 𝐵𝐶, then 𝐴𝐷2 = 3 𝐷𝐶2. CBSE Sample Paper II 2008
