1 TECHNICAL ROOM

1.1 INSTALLATION OF THE GRADIENT SWITCH

The gradient switch is used for the Intera/Achieva Nova Dual and Quasar Dual systems.

The end of the crate, just below the feet of the gradient switch, can be removed before rising up the gradient
switch. To erect the gradient switch two engineers are required.

Due to the maximum length of the cables between switch and filter box, the switch must be close to the filter
box. The gradient switch must be fixed against the wall with four delivered brackets. These brackets are 10
cm. That will be also the distance between the switch and the wall.

The gradient switch can either be installed directly on the computer floor (if available) or lowered on to the
floor of the technical room, as in the picture below.

The best position of the gradient switch is at the right hand side of system filter box. See Figure 1.
This makes also the routing of the gradient cables easier.

However, it is possible to position the switch in front of the system filter box. This could make the routing of the
cables to the system filter box more difficult while you cannot remove always the tiles under the switch.
When the switch, due to space, must be positioned at the left hand side of the filter box is also allowed, but it
will make the cabling even more difficult.
Notice that you must connect the gradient cables from the system filter box to the left hand side of the switch,
while the cables from the gradient amplifier are going to the right hand side of the switch. See Figure 1.

1.2 MOUNTING THE PATIENT VENTILATION UNIT

The patient ventilation unit is mounted on a bracket against the wall inside the technical room.
This mounting bracket is supplied with the unit.

Mount the bracket to the wall. Mount the ventilation unit on top of the bracket by using four dampers.
An air filter must be installed at the air inlet of the patient ventilation unit. This filter is default installed.
It is advised to install the unit as close as possible to the RF-feed trough, due to the maximum length of the
delivered hoses.
It is possible to mount the patient ventilation unit on the bracket as shown in Figure 2, or if needed you can
turn this unit 90 degrees on the bracket, all depending on the local situation.

Note: The hose is delivered as one piece, so locally you have to cut it to the right length.

The “air in” of the unit should be taken from below the false ceiling in the examination room.
Therefore, there should be a kind of raster in the ceiling with an adapter for the hose.

Figure 2 - Mounting of the patient ventilation unit

1.3 INSTALLATION OF THE GRADIENT CABINETS

Some configurations have 1 master cabinet.
Other configurations have 1 Master and 1 Slave cabinet.

The master cabinet has a Gradient Chain Interface rack (GCI) at the upper position.
The slave cabinet does not have such a rack, this space in the slave cabinet is empty, and will be covered
with a plate.

Position all cabinets into the technical room according to the site drawings.
Level all cabinets using a spirit level and tighten all feet.

1.3.1 Positioning of the gradient cabinets

Procedure:
1. Move the cabinets to where they will be installed and remove the straps and plastic covering from the
cabinets.
2. Master cabinet must be installed on the left and the slave cabinet at the right hand site, faced
from the front side. The cabinets, including the swivel wheels, are 160.6 cm high.
3. Remove the right side panel from the master gradient amplifier cabinet (seen from the front).
4. Remove the left side panel from the slave gradient amplifier cabinet (seen from the front).
5. Move the cabinets as close as possible together.
6. Adjust the cabinet levelers to level both cabinets and for stability.
7. Bolt the cabinets together. See Figure 3. (Bolts are shipped with the ‘cable kit dual rack’ set.
The master and slave cabinet must be bolted together for stability and to guarantee EMC.

Slave Cabinet:
In the highest compartment of the Slave cabinet behind a cover plate, a box called “Cable kit dual rack” is
stored. In this kit, you will find the documentation and six filters, incl. mounting material, which must be
mounted in the filter box.
After removing the parts, mount the cover back again. This cover prevents that the airflow leaves the Slave
gradient amplifiers while it should circulate within the cabinet. See Figure 4 and Figure 5.

1.3.2 Checking the jumpers in the GCI unit

Check all jumper settings on both GCI boards. See Figure 6 and Figure 7.
Only for system delivered with LCC, check if wrap around connectors are mounted on DGB-X6 and DGB–X7.
Always use an ESD kit.

1.5 SHIM RACK

The shim rack allows shimming of terms Z2, ZX, ZY, X2-Y2 and XY, by driving currents into shim coils. These
shim coils are positioned in a layer between the inner and outer coil of the 3T gradient coil.

Procedure:
• Connect the optical fibers from the GRADM board FDL B3 and B4 to the shim cabinet optical
connectors at the front side.

2 EXAMINATION ROOM
2.1 MOUNTING THE CEILING SPEAKERS
Two ceiling speakers have to be mounted. Use the cutting template, which is delivered with the speaker, to
cut the holes in the ceiling. One speaker must be installed above the patient support and the other one at the
rear of the magnet. See Figure 11.
The distance of 120 cm is an average in order to obtain a good sound quality on both sides of the magnet.
The absolute minimum distance at the rear side is 55 cm. In that case, the quality is decreased but is still
acceptable.
As an alternative, it is possible to mount the speaker on the wall. Use then one of the delivered build-on
boxes.

3 OPERATOR ROOM
3.1 POSITIONING OF THE CONSOLE
Position the console about 1 meter from the wall in the operator’s room in front of the window.
Route the cables and fibers in a loop to the console.
On this way, you have easy access for the cabling, and later on for service purposes.
Position the “Operator equipment cabinet” underneath the console.
