Site Analysis: The site is mostly a commercial zone and is surrounded with lots of retails. There
are a few residential apartments close by. RIght adjacent to the selected site is a huge parking
lot. Majorly this is a busy street and happening area so it is automatically prone to some noise
disturbance. However, the site is very near to the 92nd main street and this is a major
advantage for both the clients as well as the office people because of easy access and hotspot.
Concept Ideation: The building functions with a service core almost at the midpoint of the
building. This service core can be used for the primary function of the site. In this case as I have
chosen an animation studio, the primary functions apart from designing cubicles and
workstations are: The screening theatre, the editing suite and the server rooms. Hence I have
used this service core as priority and placed it at almost the centre of the site.
An indoor garden is placed adjacent to the conference area to be served as a relaxing space for
the workers. The skylight right above it welcomes natural light and it brings more life to the
office.
There are exactly 6 cubicles for workers but the site has been giving some breathing space that
act as future expansion areas.
These can be considered for any kind of studio and not just an animation studio. Livelihood the
the office and future expansion area is mandatory.
Workers:
● 6 cubicles (in open office style) for animators, designers and texture artists - 6
designers and artists
● An editing suite for the editors, renderers, and visual effects supervisors - 3 editors and
1 renderer
● Chief executive director’s cabin with a waiting area - 1 chief
● An open conference space connected to an indoor garden for relaxation and discussion
● Reception area - space for 8 employees to work and discuss
● Miscellaneous space: Storage area for utilities, Workers resting room and Restrooms - 1
receptionist, 2 cleaners, and 1 security
● There are 3 water closets for men along with three urinals and four water closets for
women
Zoning:
● The spaces are zoned in such a way that there is close proximity between workers and
the chief. Although this might sound like it is affecting privacy, in a working environment I
believe this is essential for workers to socialize better and not feel lonely. This can
effectively increase the efficiency of the process and make the employees feel like they
are in a more habitable environment,
● Enough daylighting pierces through the spaces to let in natural ventilation and light
(except the screening room). This is because animation studios are places where lots of
computers and electronics are used which can create clumsiness and disruption and
heat. Hence openings and natural light is given to overcome this difficulty.
● The main goal is to give workers a better environment to work with healthy relationships
amongst each other.
