MAJOR FINDINGS, SUGGESTIONS AND
CONCLUSION ON WAREHOUSE
MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AT OM
LOGISTICS LTD. BHIWANDI.
MAJOR FINDINGS:
1. We found that warehouse system at Bhiwandi hub looks outdated in managing the excess
amount of inventory which can be maintained properly by implementing proper inventory
e
2. Also, location wise inventory is managed which can be stored as per the nearby locations
to help booking and delivery operations.
3. Floor-site maintainance is required on daily basis to makes things easy and save overall
cost of the plant.
4. Loading and unloading needs more improvement in scanning system to avoid unusual loss
of material.
SUGGESTIONS:
1. Today big players like amazon and other big logistics companies are adopting the latest
warehouse management systems and introduced the chaotic warehouse management
systems.
2. Rather than clinging to the traditional warehousing techniques, the company should
adopt the chaotic warehouse management systems and automate the whole
warehousing operations
3. As the company adopts the chaotic WMS by making use of barcodes it can also enter
into the business of B2C logistics in addition to B2B logistics.
4. Implementation of 5S Quality tool for warehouse unused inventory and many
operations more effectively to make the warehouse system more efficient to increase
overall profit of the hub.
CONCLUSIONS;
When considering the level of effort involved in warehouse operations, the greatest
expenditure of effort is in the picking process. To gain efficiencies in picking the labour time
to pick orders needs to be reduced and this can achieved in a number of ways. Companies with
the most efficient warehouses have the most frequently picked items closest to the shipping
areas to minimize picking time. These companies achieve their competitive advantage by
constantly reviewing their sales data to ensure that the items are stored close to the shipping
area are still the most frequently picked.
Warehousing clearly has a critical part to play, in all aspects of supply chain management. It
also needs to be involved in the strategic aspects of a business and this will involve being aware
of the development of the business in terms of the future production, product, suppliers,
customers, and all the associated product volumes and throughputs.
Each and everyday new technology is being evolved, so in warehousing with the help of these
world class technological innovations, we can make it more technically competent and
innovative; thereby increasing the efficiency of the business operations.
