THE WORLD PANDEMIC: COVID-19

-INFORMATIONS-

 Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

 Most people infected with the virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and
recover without requiring special treatment. However, some will become seriously ill and require
medical attention. Older people and those with underlying medical conditions like cardiovascular
disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, or cancer are more likely to develop serious
illness. Anyone can get sick with COVID-19 and become seriously ill or die at any age.
 The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the disease
and how the virus spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by staying at least 1 metre
apart from others, wearing a properly fitted mask, and washing your hands or using an alcohol-
based rub frequently. Get vaccinated when it’s your turn and follow local guidance.
 The virus can spread from an infected person’s mouth or nose in small liquid particles when they
cough, sneeze, speak, sing or breathe. These particles range from larger respiratory droplets to
smaller aerosols. It is important to practice respiratory etiquette, for example by coughing into a
flexed elbow, and to stay home and self-isolate until you recover if you feel unwell.
 To prevent infection and to slow transmission of COVID-19, do the following:
1. Get vaccinated when a vaccine is available to you.
2. Stay at least 1 metre apart from others, even if they don’t appear to be sick.
3. Wear a properly fitted mask when physical distancing is not possible or when in poorly
ventilated settings.
4. Choose open, well-ventilated spaces over closed ones. Open a window if indoors.
5. Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or clean them with alcohol-based hand rub.
6. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
7. If you feel unwell, stay home and self-isolate until you recover.

 COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. Most infected people will develop mild to
moderate illness and recover without hospitalization.

Most common symptoms:

 fever
 cough
 tiredness
 loss of taste or smell.

Less common symptoms:

 sore throat
 headache
 aches and pains
 diarrhoea
 a rash on skin, or discolouration of fingers or toes
 red or irritated eyes.
Serious symptoms:

 difficulty breathing or shortness of breath

 loss of speech or mobility, or confusion
 chest pain.
- Seek immediate medical attention if you have serious symptoms.  Always call
before visiting your doctor or health facility.
- People with mild symptoms who are otherwise healthy should manage their
symptoms at home.
- On average it takes 5–6 days from when someone is infected with the virus for
symptoms to show, however it can take up to 14 days.

 The first known infections from SARS-CoV-2 were discovered in Wuhan, China. The
original source of viral transmission to humans remains unclear, as does whether the
virus became pathogenic before or after the spillover event.

On 31 December 2019, WHO was informed of cases of pneumonia of unknown cause in Wuhan City, China. A novel
coronavirus was identified as the cause by Chinese authorities on 7 January 2020 and was temporarily named “2019-
nCoV”.
-ESSAY-

As everybody knows, the Coronavirus disease made children and their families’ lives turn upside
down, it has completely changed their life circumstances. This virus first started last December 31, 2019,
WHO was informed about the unknown cause of pneumonia cases in Wuhan City, China. . A novel
coronavirus was identified as the cause by Chinese authorities on 7 January 2020 and was temporarily named “2019-
nCoV”. Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The
majority of people who are infected with the virus will have mild to moderate respiratory symptoms and
will recover without needing any specific therapy, while a number are asymptomatic, it means the infected
wont feel any symptoms. Unfortunately some could be ill severely, specially old people and those who
already have medical problems. Fever, fatigue, and a dry cough are the most prevalent COVID-19
symptoms, as per WHO. Few patients experience aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose,
sore throat or diarrhea. Patients usually have mild symptoms that start gradually. Most patients
recover without needing any special treatment. Only around 1 of 6 patients manifest with
difficulty breathing and become seriously ill. Anyone can get sick with COVID-19 and could be
seriously ill or die at any age. Being thoroughly informed on the sickness and how the virus spreads is the
best method to avoid and slow down transmission. Stay at least 1 meter away from people, wear a well
fitted mask, and you must wash your hands or use an alcohol-based rub periodically to protect yourself
and others from infection. It would be the best to always stay at home, unless if you need to do something
outside, you may go out, but always remember the precautions and follow them. Coughing, sneezing,
speaking, singing, and breathing can spread the virus from an infected person's mouth or nose in
microscopic liquid particles. If you are near someone who has COVID-19, you might be infected by
breathing in the virus, or by contacting a contaminated surface and then touching your eyes, nose, or
mouth. he virus would be more easily disseminated indoors and in crowded places. We should follow the
safety precautions from the professionals to avoid getting infected. Lets not forget to pray for the situation
to go back to normal.
