1. How far back in history has teaching been a part of the professional nurse’s role?
The duty of teaching has been regarded as a crucial part of nurses' roles as caretakers ever since the
mid-1800s, when nursing was originally recognized as a distinct discipline. The focus of nurses'
teaching efforts is on patient care and public health promotion, as well as educating other nurses for
professional practice. Therefore, patient education has been acknowledged as a distinct nursing activity
for many years. In the past, nurses have always educated patients, families, and coworkers. From these
foundations, nurses have broadened their scope of practice to encompass more comprehensive ideas
of health and illness.
2. How have the ANA, NLN, ICN, JC influenced the role and responsibilities of the nurse educator?
The stated organizations influenced the role and responsibilities of the nurse educators in many
aspects. In teaching patients and families as well as other healthcare personnel and nurses to achieve
their professional goal in providing cost-effective, safe, and high-quality care. The ANA issued
statements on the functions, standards, and qualifications for nursing practice, of which patient teaching
is a key element and the NLN which observed the importance of health teaching as a function within the
scope of nursing practice that they recognized nurses as agents for the promotion of health and the
prevention of illness in all settings. And the ICN which endorsed the nurse’s role as educator to be an
essential component in nursing care delivery and JC influenced the role and responsibilities of the nurse
educators by establishing nursing standard for patient education. this organizations influenced the
standards of practice, practice frameworks, accreditation standards, guides to practice which delineate
the educational responsibilities of the nurse educators.
3. What current social, economic, and political trends make it imperative that clients and nursing staff be adequately
educated?
The current social, economic and political trends which make it imperative that help the clients and
nursing staff to be more adequately educated, like in Political, they emphasis more on productivity,
competitiveness in the marketplace, and cost-containment measures to restrain health service
expenses that helps more on assessing health education to the clients and other nursing staff. The
economic and social which benefits in educating people within communities, schools, and workplaces
on illness prevention and health promotion are becoming recognized by health providers. So Nurses
must emphasize self-reliance and maintaining a healthy status throughout an extended life span in light
of demographic trends, growing with experience with a high standards education, they continue fine
their professional role, body of knowledge, scope of Practice, and expertise, with client education as
central to the practice of nursing
