Famous Quote

"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." - Eleanor
Roosevelt
The activist Eleanor Roosevelt whose famous quote significantly inspires me in my
later development path. What I strongly believe is demonstrated clearly in the quote
is that everyone has their own dreams and how they believe in and make constant
efforts to pursue those is the key to their future direction. Dreams have the meaning
of aspirations, and if people keep on dreaming, it is only dreams that help them to
develop their later life. In other words, the beauty of dreams can only be seen by
those who believe in them. The world is always in motion, and life always moves on,
so we also need to develop and improve ourselves day by day (Jones, 2020). In
some cases, people will confront failures or depression in life, this is the appropriate
time for dreams to help them get back on the right track if they have faith in what
they dream (Hoxhulka, 2021). However, stopping dreaming means that you stop
growing because it is when you have no motivation to move on. I have learned many
new concepts and valuable lessons via this quote and it really helps me to continue
developing and perfecting myself. Therefore, on the road to self-improvement, I
always have belief in my dreams and set goals for myself to obtain them in the role
of ISB student.

Vision Statement

One of my first objectives in the near future for me to achieve is that I will gain an
over-7 GPA when I study at ISB, as well as acquire proficiency in Chinese-language
communication. During the period of university life, I want to learn soft skills such as
CV writing, coordination with colleagues, and communicating with customers;
professional experience to apply to my later jobs. As a student in International
Business, I have a vision of working in the logistics industry, and I dream that I will
be able to expand the market share of the logistics business in Vietnam to the whole
world. In addition, I will invest in stocks and start my own business in the logistics
sector.
Mission Statement

I have to read carefully each chapter before class, take notes while studying, and
also revise them after class because doing these help me to remember and
understand new concepts more clearly (UNC-Chapel Hill Learning Center, 2021).
Besides studying, I also want to equip myself with more soft skills through activities
from university clubs, for instance, I have learned how to work well with my partners
in team building activities, or how to gain confidence in the interviews of recruiting
collaborators of the clubs, so participate in extracurricular activities really do benefit
both academic and social aspects (Christison, 2013). In the near future, I have the
desire to be a leader and organize the next activities of the clubs. For my future
career path, I will do some jobs or have some internship related to my field such as
Supply Chain Consultant to gain more practical experience, so I can prepare in
advance for later jobs (Taylor, 1988).

Strengths

To begin with, talking about personal strengths, I consider my curiosity in me an

astonishing tool for me to learn new things quickly because I often ask questions to
gain more insight into the problems and find ways to solve them, and it stimulates my
activeness, helps my mind perceptive to new ideas, and makes my life more
interesting. It has been proven that people have curiosity from born as infants, so it
helps us to grow and understand the world around us (Appetite for Knowledge:
Curiosity and Children’s Academic Achievement, 2018). Therefore, I always have the
willingness to get involved in trying new things because every new experience gives
me different perspectives and feelings, and they contribute to the “perfect” me later.
In an entirely English-using environment of ISB, I can improve my English in many
aspects such as public speaking, presentation skills, and academic writing,... In
research from Martirosyan et al., they have shown that academic performance will
be better if students have a higher level of English-using proficiency (2015).
Before studying at ISB, I was a shy person and I hardly stood in front of a crowd to
share my opinion, but I have the opportunity to express myself through presentations
in class, working with my teammates to prepare for the presentation, so I learn the
ability to speak in public and I feel my comfortable every time I have the presentation.
Having applied to many clubs and participated in a number of activities help to gain a
wide range of social relationships with senior teammates, so I think it will be a great
opportunity and advantage for me in the future when I seek jobs. According to new
research, it reveals that people have a higher chance of employment and it is easier
for them in the employment process when they apply for a job if they have distant
connections with many people (Halpert, 2022).
However, I consider myself an introvert because I can complete tasks alone and I
think I prefer working on my own rather than with many people. Most of the time, I
stay alone to enjoy the solitude and relax, and I love the feeling of doing my hobbies
after a hard day of work by myself. Thus, I think it is also a strength of mine because,
at the time, I can be more creative as well as thoughtful to fulfill my task effectively. It
was investigated in Cain’s research that a creative thinking process is a solo act
(2012).

Weaknesses

Everyone has their own disadvantages or weaknesses in different categories, but if

people acknowledge their shortcomings to overcome them, they will be better off. Me,
I tend to procrastinate on my work because I am unable to be focused with my
imaginative, introspective nature. In addition, it often takes quite much time to
complete it, so I feel stressed and anxious every time I have to rush through the
short time of finishing the missions and it will have a profound impact on my overall
performance. Therefore, I think that delaying work is an irritating behavior because it
brings many consequences related to both mental and physical aspects (Svartdal et
al., 2018).
Adaptability is my defect because I am unable to get used to changes quickly and it
prevents me from having more possible opportunities. The world is now changing
extremely fast due to the invention of modern technology, globalization and because
we live in an era of risk and uncertainty such as the COVID-19 pandemic; hence,
people need to have a high sense of adaptability to get used to them (Vowels et al.,
2022b). For example, in the first few months of the COVID-19 outbreak, I had to
study online and I felt it was ineffective as I lacked skills, techniques, and knowledge
in using a computer or accessing the online platform, so at that time, I could not take
in the new information thoroughly and my grade was absolutely poor.
As an introverted person, I am usually self-critical because I firmly believe in my
special potential and fervently desire to realize it. However, this can lead me to set
unreasonable standards for myself. When I fall short of these expectations, I could
blame myself for being worthless, self-centered, or severely under-qualified. If I let
this self-criticism go too far, it might demoralize me and make me give up even the
aspirations I hold most dear. Thus, because of that reason that sometimes makes
me feel depressed and in a bad mood whenever I make things go wrong.

Opportunities

In the creative and dynamic environment of UEH, and ISB, there are many activities
related to academic, recreational, and voluntary aspects. These activities bring a
number of benefits for me during my university life as well as my future career. They
have positive impacts on academic performance including higher grades, gaining
more specialized knowledge, achieving prizes, and educational success. Moreover,
soft skills and relationships are also advantages when I take part in these activities,
leading to the fact that I have the preparation before entering the labor market and
having more success (Agyekum, 2021).
Throughout the 21st century, industry 4.0 brings human beings a number of chances
to approach new technologies as they revolutionize over time, and the inventions of
technology supply many tools and resources to accommodate needs for daily
activities (The Scientific World, 2022). In the logistics field, technology gets more
involved in the supply chain with many applications from the automation process of
producing goods to apps that help to track the delivery of products by drones. Those
inventions are great tools for conserving the resources such as time, money, and
human resources (Lăng, 2022). As a result, goods and services supply the logistics
will be more affordable but with high quality, so the Vietnamese market will be more
appealing to foreign investors.
The logistics industry can gain benefits from the globalization trend as in today’s
world, globalization plays an important role in improving the communication between
business owners and consumers, which will extend the market share to the world
scale and reach new customers. In addition, this trend also boosts the sourcing
opportunities for these firms when they have multiple choices of sources, so it will
increase profits as well as revenue and decrease total costs (How Globalization Is
Impacting the Logistics Industry, 2022).

Threats

COVID-19 caused many consequences for the whole world, especially in Viet Nam,
the pandemic led to much damage to the economy. Throughout the year 2020, and
early 2021, what Vietnamese households have to confront are a reduction in income,
and job loss (World Bank Group, 2022). The Figure shows that the Vietnamese
economy was severely affected by COVID-19 and during the outbreak GDP of Viet
Nam fall significantly to reach the lowest point of 2.7%, compared to that in 2019 -
before the pandemic - at the GDP percentage of 7% (PricewaterhouseCoopers, n.d.).
The outbreak also resulted in the fact that there was an increase in income inequality
between countries in the world, only 2.0 billion people live in nations where per
capita income is higher than China, compared to 4.4 billion who reside in nations
where it is lower (Deaton, 2021). In addition, according to the General Statistics
Office, there were approximately 85,000 businesses in the suspension process due
to the pandemic (More Than 85,000 Businesses Leave Market Amid Pandemic,
2021). Therefore, I think that my future career path will be affected by the
consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic more or less, some problems I may have
to encounter are unemployment and restrictions in the interpersonal interaction
between me and clients (Lund et al., 2021).

Figure: Revision of GDP growth forecast of selected countries due to the outbreak of
COVID-19 (PricewaterhouseCoopers, n.d.)
These days, businesses tend to recruit and hire graduates from well-known and
prestige universities. Hence, there are higher opportunities for those studying at top
universities, while those from second-class universities may have to face difficulties
in seeking jobs (Lauder & Mayhew, 2020). Due to the recent increase in employment
competitiveness brought on by the global economic slump, more graduates in the
higher education sector, from top universities, are now competing for fewer jobs than
ever before. To win this competition, applicants for the jobs must equip themselves
with more skills and knowledge by participating in more extra-curricular activities in
order to enhance their personal capital (Greenbank, 2014). Thus, it would be a tough
environment for those people who want to apply to nowadays companies.
In the last months of 2022, affected by the fluctuations in international as well as
domestic markets, some businesses were reported by the Ministry of Labour -
Invalids and Social Affairs that there were 600,000 workers affected which accounts
for 4% of the total labor, and 50,000 people lost their jobs which represent 8.4%
affected workers (Dương, 2022). Furthermore, the market share of my future career
in the logistics field in Vietnam is still slightly small because Vietnamese firms are
doing business in this sector work only in domestic scope or in some countries in
Asia, while most of the supply of logistics services comes from international
companies which account for 70-80% of the market share. As a result, it will be a
hindrance to my career path because the Vietnamese market lacks popularity in this
area, although logistics-related jobs are fairly potential worldwide these days (Global,
n.d.).
