 What is Newtons First Law All About?
 Newton's First Law of Motion states that an object at rest will remain at rest until and unless an
external force is applied to it. It also states that an object in motion will remain in motion until and
unless an external force is applied to it causing it to stop.
 Lets Look At an example of First Law of motion With a rocket:
Slide 2:
Here, You can see that the first law is being applied because as first law states that an object at rest will remain at rest until an unbalanced force is acted upon it.

For example, here in this scenario, you can see that the thrust is the unbalanced force acting upon the rocket which is greater than the weight of the rocket which is pulling the

rocket down resulting in the rocket lifting off.

Slide 3:
What's next well next is newton's 2nd law of motion
Slide 4:
 What is Newtons second law of motion you might ask? Well, Newtons second law of motion states
that an object will accelerate in the direction of an unbalanced force acting upon it and the size of
the acceleration depends on the mass of the object and the size of the force acting upon it.
 Well lets look at an example of newtons 2nd law in action with a rocket:
Slide 5:
 Newton’s 2nd law of motion states that an object will accelerate in the direction
of an unbalanced force as you can see here the Thrust which is a force is greater
than the weight pulling the rocket down so in this scenario the thrust is an
unbalanced force which then causes the rocket to move upwards cause the
thrust has greater force than the weight pulling the rocket down.
 There is a mathematical formula to calculate the net force of an object and that
formula is

 F=ma Net Force= Mass x Acceleration
Slide 6:
Last but not least finally comes newtons third law of motion
Slide 7:
 Finally comes the third and final newton’s law of motion and the third law of motion states that for
every action force there is an opposite equal reaction force
 Let's Look at the third law of motion with a rocket:
Slide 8:
 Since the third law states that for every action force there is always an opposite equal
reaction force.
 As you can see here with the rocket, the engine itself produces hot exhaust gases which
flow out the back of the engine. In reaction to that the thrust force is produced in the
opposite direction causing the rocket to launch
Slide 9:
 The forces that are present in this scenario are weight, gravitational pull, thrust and drag.

 Gravitational pull effects objects in motion to rapidly accelerate to the earth so it allows the objects to
quickly accelerate towards the earth

 Thrust allows the object to propel in the direction of motion

 Drag affects objects motion in the direction that opposes the motion

Slide 10:
 The 1st law of motion states that an object at rest will remain at rest until an unbalanced force acts
upon it so in this case the force that affects the rocket is thrust because it allows the rocket to be
propelled upwards by the engine
 The 2nd law of motion states that an object will accelerate in the direction of the unbalanced force.
The thrust allows the rocket to be propelled upwards due to the thrust being greater than weight
which causes enough force to launch the rocket upwards
 The 3rd law of motion states that for every action force there is an equal opposite force for example
thrust and weight the weight is the action for the rocket to be pulled down and the reaction force is
the thrust which causes the rocket to be launched upwards
Slide 11:
Here you can see on the left here is the interaction diagram here you can see the reaction and
action forces, weight drag, thrust and lift. On the right you can see the free body diagram which
shows all the arrows about the rocket launching
