Face Mask Detection Using Arduino Board

This document proposes a face mask detection system using an Arduino board. The system uses a camera to capture images of people entering public places and detects if they are wearing a face mask using facial recognition algorithms. An LED will light up or a message will display based on the detection results. The system achieves 97.80% accuracy and provides an audio output indicating if a mask is detected. The goal is to encourage mask usage and reduce COVID-19 spread in public settings like hospitals, markets, and public transportation. Key components include an Arduino board, camera, jumper wires, LEDs, and speaker. The total estimated cost is 1,060 INR.

FACE MASK DETECTION USING ARDUINO BOARD

Abstract:

The rise of COVID-19 pandemic has had a lasting impact in many countries worldwide
since 2019. Face-mask detection had been significant progress in the Image Processing and
deep learning field’s studies. The system is designed to detect the faces and to determine
whether the person wears a face mask or not. W e can decide whether the concerned person
can be allowed inside public places such as the market, or a hospital. This project can be
used in the hospital, market, bus terminals, restaurants, and other public gatherings where
the monitoring has to be done. This project consists of a camera that will capture the image
of the people entering public places and detect whether the person wears a face mask or not
using their facial features. Here, we will create a face recognition algorithm that will be able
to detect facemasks on people's faces. The method attains accuracy up to 97.80%. The
facemask detection algorithm that will order the Arduino to switch LED on or off based on the
state of detection and displays a certain message on the display, the proposed system gives
an audio/voice output whether the face mask is present or not. Our approach would be
beneficial in reducing the spread of this infectious disease and will encourage people to use
face masks and can keep the workplace safe.
